Thought this will be useful for this thread...

          Vedanthangal birds sanctuary opens

Passionate bird-watchers seem to have a lot to look forward to this season. The Vedanthangal birds sanctuary, about 90 km south of Chennai, was opened up for visitors on Monday.

Wildlife officials said that at present nearly 10,000 birds including migratory ones such as grey pelicans, white and glossy ibises and darters have colonised the place, besides local migrants such as egrets and herons.

          ...

The State Wildlife Department has a rest house facility at Vedanthangal. A total of four rooms are available. While Rs. 500 is charged for a night’s stay in an air-conditioned room, it is Rs. 300 for the non air-conditioned rooms, they said. Bookings for the rooms have to be made at the Wildlife Warden’s office located inside the Children’s Park, Guindy premises. For details, call – +91-44-2230-1471.

not only do you put your camera to the best of its use but you got serious eye for details ....
capturing birds thru the lens is no easy job & you have again done a brilliant job

Some good shots there Sunil! If I remember correctly, you also own the Canon EF 100-400mm, is it? And I would really like to know how is the L IS (70-200mm) performing with the tele-converter on? Are there any focusing issues, so to speak? In general, how is the output quality? Going by the shots posted in the thread, doesn't look like the output gets THAT effected by the converter on.

@Satan: Wrong question! The 400D doesn't cost THAT much. Your question should be - "How much does the 70-200mm f2.8L IS cost?"

                              @ Aryan,

I don't have the 100-400L had borrowed it from Arun (Sree's friend).
We were wondering if we should swap our lenses (my 70-200L IS F2.8 with his 100-400L IS F5.6 ), but I really like my lens.

The 70-200 is just LOVELY except the weight every thing else is just too good.
it even survived our Marsmic La trip sleeping in my tank bag

The effective focal length I guess is 200mm*1.4x converter *1.6xcrop factor w.r.t full frame 35mm = 448 mm @ F 4.0 which is pretty good I guess, No Issues with focus at all.

                              @ Satan

the 400D cost me 42 K with the kit lens 18-55 mm F3.5 to 5.6 bought in Bangalore form G.K Vale
The 70-200 with UV Filter & tamaron 1.4x convector from B&H USA cost me 90 K INR.

                              @ DarkKnight

I am sure you have some birding experience to say so
you are right it is very difficult to spot them, see them in the clear, then spot them thought your view finder, focus them, have the camera in the right settings/mode, take the pic at full zoom without shake & in focus while the bird is hopping branches on a bush / tree top. its intresting as its not easy I guess, no body posts pics of a crow or a myna thats found commonly

                              Cheers
                              Sunil

@Sunil: That's a darn good price you got your 70-200mm f2.8 IS for, along with the 1.4x TC! I am so full of envy.
