All of the above listed repairs/replacements are seasonal in nature. The sprockets tires have wornout. Radiator is to be replaced with a new version which yamaha is dishing out free. Hid baba aka Navnish has promised a free replacement of the Hid which went kaput some time back. Rotors have grooves,my bad, didnt replace the pads on time. I might however opt for those bigger dia discs and those daytona sprockets

like i said, all seasonal. Have my hands tied at the moment with work and exams.. it is grease monkey time late jan :-)

Otherwise I am fine guys ;-)

                    LOG : 15000 kms

The bike in Super Street set up has logged in excess of 15,000 kms. So, its time for a small post

                    Bang for buck ?

The whole set up including big bore + the 'psychedelic profile' cam + the ultra loud FFE and the timely maintainence, costs fraction of what a Daytona kit would cost.

Twist that throttle and tell me how does it feel like ?

                    Ear to Ear GRIN

Bike has seen minimal fine tuning in terms of ringing in the total package to derive optimal performance, having said that, there is a small black hole in performance from 2k through 3k on the rev range.

But once it crosses the 3k rev mark on the tacho, the transformation starts here and goes all the way untill it hits the brick wall, i.e., 10.5k redline. Bucket loads of torque all the way, literally ! With all that power, the engine hasnt lost any of its revvy nature. Infact, the revs climb northwards so soon, I need to pay attention to my shift points. It would an understatement if I say that there is a delay in the Tacho sensing and displaying the revs. (Now, no use in blaming the Tacho saying it is faulty and all).

The cam profile has changed/shifted the power band from top and spread it beautifully across the low and mid range.

This perfectly satiates my requirements of a commute freindly set up, for I put in 50 kms every single day, 4 days a week in commuting. Unlike in the stock bike, where one would have to down shift every now and then in regular traffic conditions, courtesy the set up, I mostly stay in the 5th or 6th gear.

Most of the times while in 6th gear I have this illusion of being in 4th and end up depressing the clutch invain, trying to Up shift, thats when the bike says, 'Hello, you awake ?' Such is the torque curve !

                    Time for Some Stats :

                    0-60 kmph* in 4 seconds
                    0-100 kmph* in 9 seconds

These figures are result of not a 'Drag' definition Launch and sitting up right, every day stuff.

                    Top whack : 145 kmph*

Now, I know the R15 is capable of much better top speeds, but admit you need a loooong patch of road. This top whack comes up QUICK!

                    *Speedo indicated

Our friend Frankenstein here estimates the power output to some 22 odd horses.

Fuel efficiency : With fuel prices sky rocketing, this statistic is now an important clause. Fueling is set up to be three counts above the stock fuelling (richer) to feed the big bore and efficiency figures average to 40-41 kmpl. My own bike in stock set up would return 32-33 kmpl.

The bike is not running lean, for I know what my plug reads !

Fun Factor 1: Because the Secondary air inflow remains unblocked, every single time I roll over the throttle, exhaust 'Pops' and how, not too loud, not too soft, just right for my liking.

Fun Factor 2: The first three gear shifts at redline and you got yourself a slide at the rear!

Track Day: Only one track day on this set up and a pleasant one it was. Because the power delivery is not linear anymore, Mid corner and corner exit speeds and acceleration are something to experience.

                    Niggles, if any?

The set up demands attention. No sire, can’t run it like a stock bike!

Initially had some problems with the set up, but fortunately struck a state of equilibrium soon enough, a steady state you can call, touch wood !

'Well oiled machine' phrase become practical when you periodically change fluids, tune up as and when required, frequent tire changes and break pad changes to end with. I have seen a noticeable change in power delivery with fuel from different pumps. Nothing beats Shell!

                    Next Set of mods :

In talks with my ex-colleague, probably will plonk in the ECU and better valve & clutch springs.

All in all the bike has turned into a fun bike and hoping it would remain so until my next bike !

                    Cheers!

Hi Joel! I do have an 2008 R15. Done 41K on odo. Is there any possibility that I can get the above modifications in Delhi as it won't be possible for me to come south??

                                LOG : 20,000 kms

Have been riding my T165 for a month now, after a long break of 6 months. In the process, completed 20,000+ kms. Majority of which were in the stop and go, choko - block, chaotic Bangalore traffic.

The last time engine was opened up was at around 12k kms to replace the head gasket which kept failing.

The bike now however is running on stock exhaust, in search of a better heat tolerant material for the FFE. Glass wool just wont do the job ! One interesting finding is that the bike though not rev happy (comparitively) with the restrictive exhaust, pulls from the word go, which wasnt the case before.

Didnt have the time to go for any further mods, due to lack of time. Heck, the exisiting set up has struck a state of equilibrium which I am just loving .

Needs a service badly. A DIY service is in order this weekend ! Grease monkey time.

P.S: I see a lot of unrest/arguments/debate on modification related threads elsewhere (you know where!). This to be honest is very disappointing. I am sure all of that would be overcome, as that is what makes the 'MOD' worth it. Biking is supposed to be a liberating experience to say the least. E'nuf said !

                                Cheers!
