  • Driving a 2 wheeler in Switzerland

    Guys,
Am being kicked off to swiss for a year or so and would like to know how easy it is to drive a two wheeler out there.
    1) Whether the INdian Driving license is valid there. (Am looking exclusively on two wheelers)
    2) Whether an IDP is accepted? Duration for which IDP is accepted?
    3) If not, are there any english speaking driving instrutors out there who can enable me to get a license out there. (It sounds expensive, am ready to spend 1000CHF for getting my driving license).

Also, how easy it is to get a used 600 out there???

    THx in Advance,
Any solid help would be extremely appreciated

License: Is a photo driving license from India valid in Switzerland? - Yahoo! Answers India

You can get a International DL for 50 rupees or so from your local RTO, that will be good enough for a year.

Search for respective states RTOs websites. You will find info there. IDP can be obtained from our RTOs. Not sure if the fee is as less as Rs.50

Also, during your stay there please try and update this thread if time permits. I am curious to know about motorcycling scene in other countries and I think few more people would be interested

EDIT: IDP fee is Rs.500 in Karnataka.

Looks like you don't need any additional license as long as the Indian driving license that you hold is currently written in English (which I hope & is not in Malayalam).

IMO, just google & you can find this information; the best option is to contact the local driving school or license issue office.

THanks @Aargee..Well the reasons for me to ask abt the IDP were two
              1) I have a DL in Book form (all in English) which exactly might not work with the europe guys ( I am not sure thou)
              2) Once am comfortable riding in swiss I intend to move around a lil bit towards Germany (yes the Autobahns without a speed limit)and France where English mighnot be accepted. SO an IDP would be handy.
