^ I agree. And if mobiles used frequencies that would loose energy to things like petrol fumes or water vapour then modern mobile technology would not exist. The signal would dissipate before travelling even a few tens of meters, giving out energy to heat petrol fumes and water vapour and vehicle exhaust!

Infact, did you know that in airports, aircraft request fuel from refueling trucks carrying Turbine fuel and Petrol using radios.

^^ and have u seen that the fueling personnel carry a walkie strapped to their waist???

The issue is from aircraft hardware like weather radar ( during a ground test , even human beings are kept at a distance ).

Moreover aviation fuel ( kerosene ), has a much higher ignition temperature than petrol. ( iirc ).

^ Radars have a much higher power output. In fact certain aircraft have radars powerful enough to kill small animals nearby. But here we are talking about communication equipment.

And yes, turbine engines use kerosine. But most piston engine aircraft use petrol.

^^ exactly.. though at an international airport, mostly all that you see are turbine engined... piston aircrafts are mostly at flying clubs or with private operators.. a very limited number at airports in comparo to the turbine engined aircrafts.

Lets not go off topic here. All i wanted to say was, even in the high safety domain of aviation, radio communication equipment is used in close proximity to fuels, both kerosene and petrol.

This is true here in India, but in countries where the aviation sector is more developed all airports are teeming with piston engined aircraft. And what i wanted to convey is that radio communication transmitters more powerful than mobile phone transmitters are used close to the fuels. Lets stop with avition and go back to the petrol station with a mobile phone.
