    About Superbike Tank Cams

This discussion is valid to all bikes, but most importantly a superbike where a pillion cannot hold a camcorder at the back at high speeds.

P.S : t his post is the outcome of the many unsuccessful attempts of Ashu ( shantoo ) and me trying to shoot the acceleration of the blackbird as well as speeds of 250kmph+. ashu being a old man couldnt manage the high speeds

anyways my current mission is to get a tank cam which will mount on the tanl of the blackbird formly, no jugaads what so ever. hunting the internet got me to several links, one of the best was :

SportBikeCam Motorcycle Video Camera Mounting solutions | Pashnit.com

Please go through the above link. I have got a SOny DCR 40 or something miniDV camcorder. its quite small and light. So what i have to do ist to get a tank mount, thats it. wont need the cigarette lighre for now, anyways that wont be hard to get in India on second thoughts.
Some Important post in relation to the discussion

Rather than having the camera sit on the tank

its a wireless cam which sends the AV signal via RF to the receiver which in turn is connected to the handy cam both of which can be kept in the bikes boot or in a back pack.. simple.. u can also find em on ebay..

stick the small wireless cam on the tank or the yoke of the bike and ur ready to go no messy wires or anything..powered by 9v batteries..

    heres a link
    http://www.footprintsecurity.com.au/spy_camera_mini.php
Check this samsung sports camcorder SC-X210L. its got a external lens which u can use as a on-tank cam.. only problem i guess will be the memory part.

I found my Nokia N73 to be a great tool for this job. Check it out:

The actual videos are of very good quality and resolution and are bigger in data size. Youtube make them of smaller resolution when you upload them.

I have been strongly advised against posting my videos for obvious reasons and I would happily adhere to that principle.

But I would like to mention that sportbikecam.com is a great site where you can order your tank cam mount from. I ordered my mount from there. Please do also remember that this is NOT considered as personal effects and hence you will be paying 60% customs duty over and above the price mentioned on the site when Fedex/DHL delivers it to you at home.

But there is one way of avoiding that duty. If you are going abroad, you can get it ordered to the place you will be staying and pick it up from there on your way back. That way you won't have to pay duty.

What!!!! Can we have more details on that please. Coz I am sure a lot of people here with P200 and P220 would be interested BIG time, duties notwithstanding! Coz a tank mount camera is GREAT fun.

Atlast i got time to put it here. I have got a tank camera mount from Motorcycle And Sport Bike Camera Mounts - San Carlos, California - SportBikeCam.com almost 6 months ago. Previously i had plans of buying a ninja 250R so bought a tankcam mount for the same.

Later plans changed and bought myselt a P200. And i tried fixing the same to it. Amazingly it was a straingt fit... Will post the pics now...

                home made camera mount

you can make your own camera mount using some PVC (water) pipe and nut s and bolts. I did. It worked so well that my friend borrowed it and it went with his bike (GSXR 1000) when it got stolen.

It was pretty much based on this design. but, instead of being clamped on the handle bars, I used a long bolt through the steering stem.

                  GoPro Hero Wide Cam video

I recently bought GoPro Hero wide angle cam which is specifically designed for motosport. I used suction cup mount to install it on my SV and took it for a spin

Overall thumpup from my side. Camera works well and suction cup mount holds real good. This cam is ready to shoot roads around pune

I've been an old user of GoPro cameras. I have used the first one and now I also have a Wide 5 MP. The camera is awsome and the basic kit is simply superb. We have even tried the suction mount at speeds in excess of 215 kmph and its brilliant.

I definitely recommed it. Its a must for every track enthusiast. Once my photographs get approved, you will see the camra on the right front fender facing backwards.

                      cheers..!

bike charger for gopro hd helmet

                        hey guys,
ive planned a trip mumbai-leh-mumbai and am buying a gopro hd helmet camera for the trip.the battery of gopro is 3.7v 1100 mAp which is similar to the one used in nokia expressmusic.and the gopro can be charged while shooting..was just thinking if this charger would help me with the charge for the entire trip.gopro cam has a usb charging pin so i dont think so it should have a problem.was thinking whether to buy an extra battery which will cost me more 20$(trying to save money for the trip) which would still need charging but would be a backup if something happens to the first one or use the bike charger without worry.

Just for the benefit of others, I am reviving this archived thread regarding tank mounts...

I have been using a tank mount for all kinds of cameras bought from sportbikecam.com and it is a worthwhile expenditure. The mount is VERY stable. And it can take normal handycams and DSLR cameras with ease at high speeds.

Caution: Please do not try stunts and ride at high speeds.

YouTube - Ken round and round the Mulberry bush, R1 and the Busa ;-)

Just an example to show how stable this thing can be.
