^^ True, and that will give Bajaj more scope to experiment (and even commit errors!) coz if anything backfires, only that particular brand will be affected not the whole Bajaj brand.

On the other hand, Pulsar brand has nowhere the goodwill, recognition and trust among the public compared to the Bajaj brand. It only is regarded as a product of Bajaj brand. It will be an uphill task to generate that trust for the Pulsar brand. And why throw away the years of goodwill that the Bajaj brand has generated?

So, a new brand should be developed only if Bajaj is planning something radical and that does not gel perfectly with the ethos of the Bajaj brand. As said before, Pulsar is better off as a product name.

You are talking so much about Honda.. so I guess you are from Honda or you own a product of Honda or just love the brand.. whatever it is. Did you observe that Honda has separate logos for their bikes and Cars?? why didn't they put wing rider symbol on cars?? any guess? My question is can Bajaj do something similar with Pulsar.. I know there are people who talk about reliability issues, quality issues etc.. that's not the question here. Those issues will get sorted as Bajaj brings in technology upgrades.. and learn the art of manufacturing bikes. I think products from Bajaj stable are far more reliable than they were ten years ago. My question is specific to Pulsar brand of bikes.. I got this thought as many of my pals refer to Pulsar as a brand first.. not as a Bajaj product. With four products under Pulsar brand it has got enough share of premium segment or 125+ segment, to make it an independent brand.
Jaguar and Land Rover are the Premium automobile manufacturer. They have products under their brand name. Where as what you are talking about is making Pulsar as the brand name.. So does that mean.. once the Pulsar Brandname is established.. there will be bikes under Pulsar brands.. of different capacities.. like 150-180-220 etc.

So like we have Honda CBR600RR, CBR1000RR.. we will have Pulsar 220F, 220N.. etc etc.. Sounds like a good idea. And how bajaj will do it.. that is to be seen.

PS - I am not a Honda guy. I hate the Arrogant Japenese guys. Even I hate the Toyotas.
And BTW I own 2 pulsars.
And on Tata - JLR deal.. Tata wanted to acquire the JLR not just to own iconic brands.. but there was much more to it. Owning premium brand was just one of the motive. there were whole list of reasons for owning the Iconic brand. Lets not get into that. We can discuss that somewhere else.

In my humble opinion *ok not so humble ever* if Bajaj had bothered to change the design of that nut cracking tank on the pulsar then the "words" pulsar could have been an apt "brand - logo"
Logo's need not be an image, illustration, it can pretty well be the name.... and Bajaj can still do that (and probably have taken the first step in that direction with the launch of the P135)

I need a job, if you from Bajaj then please PM me

sorry mate.. i'm not from Bajaj . You know there are scores of people out there who simply love that nut cracking tank!! when I was in Chennai, one of my roomies got P150.. he is not exactly well built at 5'4" and used to struggle to control P150.. I asked him why didn't he go for Disco 125 or other bikes which are light enough for him.. you know he said, I just love this tank design. Good old CBZ was his favorite design, but for now he simply loves P150. True.. Bajaj has definitely taken a step in right direction with P135.. let's see what's in store for Pulsar in 2011..

^ I dont dislike the tank or something. Sorry if my comment appeared like that.
What I rather meant was that the tank has\had slowly become pretty "symbolic" for the "brand" pulsar. What I meant was if the P220 had a better designed tank not only would it have looked better, but also had got that misconception out of peoples mind.

PS: I guess TVS would soon face that problem with the Head lamps on the RTR....

+1 to that bro.. certainly P220 is in need of better designed tank, which has some knee recess too.
