Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
The girl said, 'NO!'
And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Re: Why Do I ride?
Let me pen down a few words from my side.
WHY DO I RIDE ?
I could just live a constant cycle and let the time pass. But why do I ride ?
Riding here is not just going from point A to point B, but the time that is between me and my bike. Which I do just for myself. I ride because I love to. I will put it like I saw in a documentry, "riding is my medicine to get away from all the pain of this world and have fun with just my bike."
A couple of years back in my 3rd year of engineering college, I was really depressed for something that I can't say here (no gf drama, something else) and used to take my bike and go all alone on highways for hours and that was the only time when I used to truly felt alive. Now those times are long gone, but I still do the rides out of the blue and still feel the same calmness that I felt in those moments. Riding has become a part of me that I can't live without.
Many say that why do you invest so much every month on your bike, I just smile and say, how could you not take care of the thing that has stayed with you in your most tough times.
Ride safe and have fun.
Regards
Nadeem

When somebody asks me why love it so much?
I just smile and say she is always there for me, never complains. She always makes me happy, I am alive when I am riding her.
It may be a 'thing' for you but to me she is a person, whom I love and who sets me free.

Great post, Brother. When you are on the machine, you don't really 'command' your hands and legs. They kind of act on their own. As you rightly said, you feel 'alive'. It's the machine which really keeps you moving on. That, probably, is one of the reasons why we cannot part with our machines. I haven't seen the documentary yet but I saw the trailer and its just too good.Originally posted by nadz11.ns View PostLet me pen down a few words from my side.

Re: Why Do I ride?
Wow. I too have the same feelings when I ride. The me time is really great. I mostly ride a bullet so while riding I can't feel the fone vibrating or ringing. So absolutely no interference just me gliding over the tarmac. Sometimes I ride real slow, 20ish. Chugging along lazily to my work. People giving me crazy looks while passing me. Sometimes I whack open the throttle and overtake every moving thing. Its tiring though even she likes it slow. She is more of a living the present not zooming past. When I am sick the only thoughts are how many days will I have to be rideless. Somedays on the highway i stop at random places and sit with her for minutes just staring at the passing traffic. Then again there is no escaping the cycle and I ride...

Re: Why Do I ride?
Dear thread starter, I too was planning to start similar kind of thread
but it's good to see a fellow member has already started this thread where we can share our feelings of Riding & answer the most difficult question asked to us,
"Why We Ride?"
So here's my share of answers. (a bit long though)
There's always a story behind every Biker, a story which made us a proud Community.
For most of us the story started with a Heart Break, the reasons may be different (Girls, Family expectations, etc.) but the pain & agony are same.
Well in my case it was both of the above mentioned reasons. After parents disapproved my wish for Engineering in 11th standard I took a path of rebellion, used to bunk coaching & go to game parlours where Smoking & Betting were the evils I shook hands with. After around 3 months of fooling around & spoiling my quarterly exam results I got busted for good
.(that was the scariest day of my life)
That year my life was too stressed, one day I don't know what happened instead of going to coaching I took my scooty (yeah a 1st generation TVS Scooty
) towards the Highways just wandering around on roads lost in Lucky Ali's song playing on walkman
Ghar ko main nikla, tanha akela..
Saath mere kaun hain, yaar hai mera..
Jo bhi karna tha, kar aa gaya main;
Pyaar ko hi maanke chalte jaanaaa...
*Phone rings doesn't attends* it was Dad
, just seeing his name gave me goosebumps & I came back to my senses & realised that I have came too far & am riding in the outskirts of city
immediately took a U-turn & gave full throttle, reached home told Mom "Dad called me while I was attending the lecture, kaam tha kya??" she said he was just calling to make sure that I was in class & not bunking again.
(Pheww God saved me) that day I realised that I have finally found Morphine for my pain.
A year passed Friend circle changed, My ambitions changed so did my personality, from a shy nerd I became a big funny guy who had some good contacts.
With changed personality the source of Pain changed too, Yeah this time the reason was a Girl, need not share the experience here as everyone knows how it goes.
The Biking Morphine was still effective
It's not like if you own a bike you become a Biker, it's the feeling with which you buy one, a feeling of Freedom, a feeling of Responsibility while riding.
As it has been mentioned above, the best time for a biker is when he is riding his bike on tarmac lost in his own world, forgetting the past, looking beyond the obstacles, *just hearing the engine & exhaust sound makes you forget your worries.
We have our drug of biking with us & are always high on it, just when we get down from saddle we have a big smile on our face which every time makes us forget our senses, sorrows & worries.
My friends call me stupid because I have money to spend it on my Bike but no money to spend on Drinks & Gym with them
.
Doesn't matters how you make them understand the sheer pleasure & joy of Motorcycling, world is always gonna mark you as a Stupid Guy who buys a Motorcycle when he can buy a Car (Cage)
In the end just a thought
"Motorcycling is a completely different Consciousness, not everyone's cup of tea."
*Drop a Gear & Disappear*

Re: Why Do I ride?
For me riding is not just sitting on bike and going from one place to another for some work.
Riding is a feeling which you feel when you are on the bike. Its a medicine of stress. Forgetting the world there is just you and your bike.
Riding is a feeling which i can't explain in words

Re: Why Do I ride?
We can easily define how to live.. Get a proper education, find some nice job, get married blah blah blah...
But only our passion tell us why to live.. And our passion is biking.
Biking includes a stunter, a racer, a tourer and all these share a common bond as love towards our bikes.
Proud to be a biker.

Re: Why Do I ride?
Why do we ride? hmm... Why did we ride? Why was there always a pair of something between our legs?
I live otherwise because I have to... I ride because I just do.
The drafts of gust sipping on tea when a truck passes by the highway at high speeds...
The dynamics of playing with the center of gravity...
The intertwining of mechanical genius with forced balance...
The simple feeling of the rear wheel being directly proportionate to my right hand movements...
The corner and the road... need I say more?
The solitude or the power of attaining it quickly...
The gathering of like minded humans on two wheels...
The feeling of openness and in touch with nature around...
The banter of none other than my ride...
...
i'm sure i'll have many many reasons more by my next update on the thread... nice thread.
Cheers.

Re: Why Do I ride?
Nice one Sid_dha_raj . At this point I think I ride because I am addicted to motorcycling. I think this is with many of us that we can't imagine our life without riding, we are so addicted that even a day or two passes without our motorcycles the restlessness or itch to crank the engine arises.

Re: Why Do I ride?
True, after couple of days, when you sit on your steed, wow its a feeling. I forget my 'self' and surrender 'myself' to the machine.Originally posted by Traveller01 View PostNice one Sid_dha_raj . We are not holding the machine... its the other way around
Its crime to ride a car alone, so I ride bike :).
