No no don't use SAE 90 on o ring chain. The rubber rings swell up and the chain jams later. You need to get the Motul Chain Clean and Motul Chain Lube sprays to clean and lube your chain.

There is absolutely no problem by using SAE 90/140... i am using it for past 1&1/2 years on my FZ... my first chain lasted ~27000kms with it and now also i am using it...
About Motul chain clean & lube, its the perfect thing you can buy in the market... but spending 900Rs/- is way too much for our bikes, isn't...
A simple maths... Stock chain and sprockets costs ~1300-1500Rs/- which will last upto 25K(from my experience) without any probs. so why do we shell so much money on that, even though while using motul chain lube i don't think one can get the chain to last more than 30K...
This is my personal opinion only...

It wont . and i had mentioned to let it dry and then lubricate it .

                  simple procedure
1] if lot of mud stuck on chain then pressure wash with a water piper .
2] clean the oily grime using a toothbrush or something simlar using kerosene
3] after cleaning let the kerosene dry away and now lubricate it with gear oil 90 or 140 . dont put too much as it will dirty the rim when you ride . a thin layer is enough .

remember to keep a newspaper beneath tyre and chain so floor is not dirtied and always keep engine off while doing it .

Ya its the perfect method, but i uses Diesel instead of kerosene(i don't know whether its bad or not?).
if you clean&lube the chain every week, instead of kerosene you can use shampoo to clean the chain.
                    @TS hope you got it?

Oh then I had the wrong information! Thank you for enlightening. And your logic is good. its not worth it. Shelling 900 odd bucks for a 1000 rupee part that ain't gonna last any longer using those sprays. I too never used them. Dunno what the SS people use, but after every service the chain is sparkling clean.

Ha ha ha those are only my calculation, coz when we spend our hard earned money it must be really worth it...
As i said Motul is the best bet if you have the money, else you can go for SAE 140, it won't disappoint you. SAE 140(Penzoil) cost 95 and MAK 140 cost 85 odd bucks for 500ml bottle which will last upto 3-4 months for a single use...

i have a few questions for those who are using SAE 90 oil.

Does the oil stick to the chain long enough since i heard that the gear oil is too thin ??
How often do we need to lubricate the chain in city conditions like bangalore???
Nowadays i am not lubricating the chain & i let the yamaha SC guys do the same while servicing . How much would it reduce the chain life by???
NOT BEEN THERE NOT DONE THAT

FZ series manual specifically says no kerosene/used engine oil.
