  • Mobile connection for rides to distant places.

ok, I know this is pretty dumb thread, so you can let your face muscles relax, dont frown!

I have been a Vodafone customer for some 14-15 years now and have seen that Vodafone particularly has serious roaming concerns when you are Roaming/ travelling to the distant areas. And am not talking about a NO-NETWORK Areas, simple areas that are gladly and wonderfully covered by Airtel and BSNL to name a few.

Now that I am planning to go to Leh in September with my wife (who also is a Voafone Customer) we are looking for a Connection (Should be from Delhi Network) on which we can divert our incoming calls and might be able to use when required. Further, I understand that post Darcha and Karu, there is almost no network, but atleast the connection should work post Manali and also in Leh ( Vodafone would not follow you after Manali)

Also, a sincere request, though I appreciate small talks, but am not aiming this thread towards a brand war. Just a simple HELP ME thread for the most preferred netwrok while roaming in Himachal Pradesh. Would appreciate to hear it from people who have used it, then to from people who have heard that unkey chacha k saley k bhai k foofa k padosi k pootey k classmate nay kaheen suna thaa types!!

    Am waiting for the response.

    All Cheers
    dcs

BSNL - Going through all the Leh travelogues, most guys seem to be using BSNL

BSNL would be the most preferred, also, check with vishwas (trustvishwas). He is the only person (that I know) who would give you a detailed analysis of what works where and when!
Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience.

I suggest keep 2 connections... But one of them should be either Reliance or BSNL. I have had RIM networks in the remotest villages where Vodafone,Airtel all fails.!

@dcs: I would agree with others. There is no other connection in the entire planet (perhaps!) like our very own BSNL! It works like a charm no-matter which part of the country you travel to. However, getting a BSNL connection can be a little bit of an issue, I guess.

As for Vodafone/ Hutch, it dies as soon as we hit some decent stretch of hills. I believe the "pug" just fails to follow wherever we go!

@dcs: Vodafone/Airtel was available at towns at J&K! But, not at the hills but BSNL was!

And do remember to take "post-paid" connection to J&K..pre-paids don't work there!

Well, We would be carrying our mobiles, but are looking for a secondary connection which should work when our mobiles fail to ROAM! Also, I am not worried about connectiosn working here and there, I am particularly worried about being in touch with the human race/folks when we are touring in Himachal Pradesh. I was out of the coverage area of my Service Provider when I was in Kalpa, wherein people aound me were busy chit chatting with their loved ones and getting marketing calls too. J

The PUG has some serious issues with Higher altitudes- still not acclimatized with AMS, hence looses its BREATH. J

me & mg carried vodafone, airtel, tata indicom & bsnl.

bsnl worked at almost all the parts except pangong & nako.

airtel had a decent connectivity too at most locations.

vodafone--forget it.I am a vodafone user for 9 years now.

@ Rahit: Kohli Saa'b, thanks for your imputs but am not looking to move over to a new connection now. I am looking to get an additional connection to be used only during touring, as we will be diverting our incoming calls to that number and stay in touch to the maximum time.

I wonder if Reliance and Tataindicom works on the way to leh or even in Leh. in 2008, none of my mobiles were working, neither Vodafone, nor Tataindicom

                          Here's a small suggestion from my side for this;

Get a BSNL prepaid connection; recharge it every year for Rs 350 & it will have Rs 75 talk time & you'll get 1 year incoming free; when you make such trips, carry recharge cards depending upon the availability of them at the places.

This way, you'll not loose much money & yet you can keep the connection alive

In J&K none of the other states Prepaid connections will work due to security reasons.Only BSNL post paid will work.

                            Keep this in mind.

Nice sales pitch buddy, but I havent used pre-paid for almost 12-13 years now. I will be getting a post paid only, but thanks for your suggestion.
