  • Issues with P200

Hi Guys, I have a p200 2009 model. It has done 20000k till now. I have been facing some problems with my bike.

1.Gearshifts are hard while downshifting. Whereas upshifts are smooth. I've tried tightening the clutch but still no effect. Don't know whats wrong.

2.My bike is vibrating a lot in high revs. My girlfriend complaints a lot about the vibrations in rear footpegs. Is there anything I can do to reduce the vibes?

Can you guys please suggest at what interval I should get tappets and valve clearance adjusted? I asked the Probiking guys about this but they say theres no need. Does anyone know a good mechanic for pulsars here in chandigarh? as I am not convinced by the probiking service.

    Thanx in advance.

If you have done 20000kms on your P200, its time to change some parts
      The regular ones include
      1.Clutch plates+pressure plates+ clutch springs
      2.Spark Plugs
      3.Air filter
4.Drive Chain lock and links set+sprocket kit
      5.Fork oil
      6.Nitrox Gas refill
      7.Tappet adjustment and valve clearances
      8.Timing chain tensioner adjustment
      etc.

This will make your bike almost as good as new. The vibrations could be due to loosening of nuts and bolts due to rides on bumpy roads, over revving of the engine due to worn out clutch and/or worn out bushes and rubber washers. Get them all checked.

        Thanks for the reply mate.

I regularly get my bike serviced. I also change required parts according to schedule.

        1. Have changed none of 'em. Service center guys say that my bike is fine & there is no need to change these parts.

        2. Spark plugs changed second time on last service.

        3. Air Filter changed second time on last service.

        4. Changed at 17500k.

        5. Gonna change fork oil on next service. Can any one Suggest which oil should I use for this?

        6. About Nitrox refill, I have asked the probiking guys but they say that they don't have a perticular part for this.

7 & 8. Again those plain ignorants tell me that your bike is running fine, so no need to adjust this stuff. That is why I am asking if any one can recommend a good mechanic here in chandigarh who can do these adjustments, It'll be really helpful.

@above thanx again for the reply

          1) first of all welcome to the world of bajaj biking. normally the bike has a behavior of its own. when the engine oil is new, everything is smooth, but later on everything is affected when the engine oil loses its life.
          i have a 220.

my upshifts are harder than downshifts. try shifting gears at 5k rpm or 6k.u'll do fine.
just start ur bike. keep the idle rpm at 2000 for a min. then ride out.make sure u idle ur bike.

the chain slack is directly related to the gearshifts. the tighter the chain, the more difficult to shift. the looser it is, it is again difficult.
learn how to adjust slack. keep slack to 35mm exact. measure it if u want.
this will give some relief to ur gearshifts.

          2) Get ur engine mounts checked once. they have bushes which help minimize the vibes. every bike Ive ridden has got rear foot peg vibration issues. u really cant solve that. one solution is stay at a speed where u feel the bike is not vibrating much, maintain that.

tappets should be set at 5000kms. then later on its not necessary to get it done regularly. it really doesn't matter. get it done now. next tappet setting ask Ur pbk adviser for it. sorry I'm from Bangalore. i have no idea about the service in other parts of the country.

one small tip for u. if u feel u have a problem with ur bike, locate the fault and tell them to rectify it.
being an owner, its difficult for u to asses the problem urself.how will some other person know?

nitrox filling not required now. if bajaj has a problem , locate a mechanic to do it for u. even a car mechanic can fill it provided he knows what he's doing. read ur manual for further info on it.

stick to the fork oil used by bajaj.

if there is no physical problem with ur bike, then dont bother about it. just be cautious. ur bike will run fine.

You need tappet adjustment when there's that typical tik tik sound. You'll feel the difference in the engine noise when tappets need realignment. Also I forgot to mention chain slack setting. as vid_powerstroke pointed out, the chain condition also determines if the gearshifts are going to be smooth or clunky. Get the chain adjusted to 35mm slack on the lower side of the chain at the centre of the chain. Also get the chain cleaned and lubed thoroughly. You'll instantly feel the difference in the gearshifts. One thing that has helped me improve the gearshifts is the lubing of the joints on the gear shifter, you see the gear shifter is a set of 2 links. Oiling the joints of these links also helps.
For the vibration problem try changing the engine oil to Valvoline 4T Premium as this is the only engine oil which meets the 20W50 rating,. but rear footpegs vibrate a lot more than the front ones. so maybe your gf needs to get used to the foot massage your bike will provide!

Thanx a lot vid_powerstroke. Really great info.

Wow! your bike exactly does the opposite from mine. My 'downshifts' are hard & I've observed that I have to keep the rpm as 'low' as possible.

About the chain, I do proper maintainance. All cleaning, lubing, Tightening is done twice a month usually. but these days I do it Every sunday coz chain gets a lot dirty due to rains. Although I'll try adjusting it to 35mm slack whenever I get time.

I'll surely get the engine mounts checked, thanx for pointing that out.

One more thing about the vibes. My bike gives strong vibrations at very low rpm's, say 2500 to 5000. Makes front fairing & blinkers shake badly & then goes pretty mild till around 6-7k. After that rise progressively to the high revs.

I'll try to find a car mechanic for nitrox suspension filling. But I was wondering how he's gonna do that. & to what pressure I should get'em filled.

@pavanchirmade, I'll try lubing the gear shift lever. & I am using Motul 300v right from the 5th service. I've heard its the best I can get for big pulsars. Is Volvoline 4t Premium is better?

Looking forward to your replies guys. Thanx a lot again.

Valvoline may not be better than Motul but i really can't comment as I have never used motul.
