  • Help required for Shogun rebuild

    Hello Everyone,

I own a 1996 silver shogun, which I'm started rebuilding. kindly help me for the below queries I have

    1. The petrol tank was leaking so my mechanic used some tinkering paste for it, but after 3 months it started leaking (for clarity see the pic below). I don't like to weld since the original paint will be ruined, kindly advise a good solution.

    2. which front disc brake setup will suit for shogun best? my bike runs on 16" rim, (some times I use 18" rim) @ rear, it reaches 128KMPH speed concerned about handling & braking.
    3. I like to go for STD cylinder bore with ART piston kit, since it runs on 3rd oversize. very difficult to find ART piston, where we can get TKRJ in india?
    4. Is it possible to get the original suzuki Fiber clutch plates which used to come in 90's? my friend tells that we can use fiber clutch plates used in AX100, which is still sold in some other countries, is that correct?
    5. Few years back due to low mileage changed the carb, want to use original(don't know the spec of the same) or put some good carb which suits best for the Gun. need suggestions
    6. My mechanic told to put 2T oil while filling petrol, since the oil pump is not working fine. but I like to restore the pump, are the oil pump parts still available?

thats for now, I shall put some more quires while rebuliding
thanks for all lookin for your valuable reply
    Cheers!!

The Petrol tank seems badly rusted. I think the best and long term solution is to get the rust removed and the tank repainted. However, if the hole is not too big, have you tried M-Seal ?

Thanks Guru for the suggestion actually its not rust, its the tinkering paste applied to arrest the leak. dont like to repaint since its hard to get the original color! yeah not tried with M-seal, most of the mechanics deny for M-seal to fill the gap. don't know what to do

Trust me. Mseal does the trick. But remove that tinkering paste before you apply it and also ensure that the petrol tank is completely dry and allow the mseal to set for around 24 hrs. Also, get a small tin of Silver paint and a brush to touch up that part. You can DIY with some time and patience.
