    Shocking mileage


    My bike beats the Ninja 250 .. yup.. not in top end not in accelaration but in mileage
    Recently i observed my bike is giving a mileage 22-24 km /litre

    i didnt notice it till i went for the Road trip ..
    i checked it atleast 5 times and yes i am right . The mileage i get varies from 20-24 depends on the speed i ride. When i ride at 60-70 the mileage i am getting is 24 . I already told this to service centre guys they have no idea . they serviced it and told eveything is ok now but no change.

    Airfilter is new , spark plug is NGk iridium . All other things are stock .
    No modifications except Michelin tyres. Any one any idea ?
    clutch plates are 16 K old but i dont feel any accelaration or top end reduction . earlier bike used to tocuh 130 now it is touching 120 eventhough there is a slight missing feeling at 120 's .

    i couldnt observe any black/white smoke . but what i noticed is the engine oil level is also reducing much faster than normal rate ..

    Any suggestion?

      Bro the missins might be because of your carburetor.. it has to be cleaned are tell your mechanic to check the jet pin in it.. and about engine oil am quit confused

        check your clutch plates
        Advice is a form of nostalgia.
        Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

          If the engine oil is dropping fast, it could be a kaput piston ring and oil being burned. This happened in the first two bikes I rode, a Bajaj 4S Champion and the CT100. I have not noticed any tell tale signs other than the oil level dropping drastically. Maybe you can have a go in this direction... And lets hope its not that, else its a pain!

            thank you all for the suggestions..
            finally all the problems sorted out..
            Oil level was decreasing due to oil leak from the oil seals
            Changed the oil seals and the oil leak is stopped ..

            Regarding mileage , gave bike to a good mechanic.
            he cleaned the carburetor , adjusted AFR and tuned the engine.

            Checked the mileage the mileage many times in highway .
            Constantly getting getting 36 (80-90 speedometer )
            Tried ripping very hard , bike gives 28 (120 -125 speedometer )
            The bike is very smooth and running fine ..
            I am very much satisfied with my machine and from next week onwards back to touring

                Hey even i am facing mileage problems these days.If i take my bike to speed of 80 the mileage drops too fast. Few months ago, the carburetor was leaking petrol, got it fixed.Now no petrol is leaking but i dont understand why bike is consuming so much petrol. Secondly my carburetor screw(the brass one) is jammed. Any tips on how to get it fixed?

                  Having the same issue with my 220Fi, gives me about 25kmpl @ 60kmph & as usual the PBK guys are blank !! The guys at sai service luk at you in such a dumb manner you feel like punching them in the face. Dont know why Bajaj comes up with bikes they cannot support or service. I pity the Ninja guys & soon im sure people buying the KTM would go through the same thing. No sign of any leakage anywhere & the fuel pump & clutch plates has been changed a month back. Also it would be really helpful if anyone can suggest a gud mechanic for the 220Fi in mumbai. . .

                    i am also getting a shocking mileage. yeah.....true". 55- 65 on my 180 ug4.

                      Not always loss/consumption of engine oil will result in black or grey smoke. It may but then again at very high RPM. If it's time to get piston rings changed, then get it done. May help

                        looks like mostly all the service centre in mumbai are bad(authorised one), yes the said service people just suck big time.They sometimes dont even have time to listen to your problems!
                        After buying pulsar from them my dad and I decided never to buy any vehicle from sai service. By the way mostly all the mechanics say time to change clutch plates, is it problem with the pulsar or the mechanics just fool you?
                        I had to change my clutch plates last time because one idiot mechanic installed clutch system of 150 in my 180cc pulsar! The difference in size could be clearly seen and the no. of clutch rings(or whatever you call it) was less by 2!
                        So i wonder if any damage was already done to the engine!
                        By the way anyone knows the the mileage drops soo fast? I just dont speed anymore because the petrol indicator which stays at 3/4th level drops to 1/2 in no time, Its like bike is drinks petrol way too much!

                          A good welder, or someone who specializes in this can help you out. They will either weld a rod to the screw, and rotate it out, or drill thru it and pull it out. The air fuel screw is very important. If it is not set properly, your mileage can be haywire!!

                            There are two types of screws in 4 stroke right?
                            One is for fuel adjustment(the brass one) and is near carburetor but where is the air screw? Any pics or suggestion where is it in pulsar?
                            And am plannign to tune my bike in service centre itself, but what should i say to the service centre guys?
                            And what will be the cost?
                            Any idea?

                              ya, its good to take your bike to SC and let them set it for you. For proper tuning digital tachometer is required. Just turn your bike to SC people and say I wanna get the bike's tunning done and tell the problem you face.
                              The tunning will adjust the air/fuel mixture setting for your bike. You can check that by seeing the spark plug color. The spark plug head's color should be brown. If it is black, it means lean mixture is supplied to the bike and tunning needs to be done. I am not sure about the cost.
