  • General queries I face while controlling at 65-75 KPH ! Help me ride with pleasure :)

I completed riding 850 kms. yesterday with average 50 KPH speed ! Till now, I reached 68 KPH i.e. yesterday as my Highest speed !
So now I'm confident enough of riding 100-150 kms. at a stretch but there are still several issues I've faced since Day 1
    Here are those..

    1. When at the highway yesterday, I pulled my throttle & reached 45KPH & suddenly there were winds, really fast which were increasing my bike's speed which went up to 53 KPH
    How does this happen ?

Since I've now started riding at high speeds.. I want to learn to control myself & the bike at high speeds like 65-75 KPH ! Yesterday I felt as if I will fly if I pull the throttle anymore (I'm tall & thin)
Suddenly there are cars who go down from 70 to 40 by looking at the potholes, so here how do I brake ? What I did yesterday was keep safe distance & push the rear brake slowly..

    2. I also realized that there are almost no two wheeler on the fastest lane i.e. the most right ! Do I follow the same ? Like ride @ 60-70 KPH on middle lanes ?

    3. Lastly, my back is paining so so badly since yesterday.. Generally, when I start the bike, I ride at least for 40 KMS. & there was no back pain
Now is this because of the rides or something else ?
I have a SUZUKI GS150R which is wonderful for long rides but now what to do ? ?

Thank you for reading this patiently

As with any other activity, practice makes perfection.
      My attempts at your queries.

      1. Air is also a fluid. Just like you'll be slowed down when swimming upstream and vice versa, when you are riding with the wind, you'll gain speed w/o much effort, and when riding against it, it will be harder. Its the cross-winds that have to be handled cautiously. They can get nasty. When riding in cross-winds look for obstacles which can cut them, be careful riding into one and coming out of one. eg: overtaking a truck.

      2. Keep distance from the forward vehicle proportional to your speed. Practice using the the front disc brake. The front brake contributes to 70% of you the total braking power. If caught behind a suddenly decelerating car, brake with both front and rear, reduce speed and if the next lane is clear (use the RVMs always when changing lanes) move into it and pass the car.

      3. Again, practice. Practice riding in a fwd crouching position. You arms should be bend at the elbow, not straight. Holding the bike with st hands may look stylish, but it will give you sore arms, shoulder in a long tide. Grab the tanks with your thighs, make your upper torso free. Daily do some simple stretching exercises. While on long rides, at each pit stop, do a few stretches.

Most of these are explained in detail in the Art of Safe Riding threads.

      cheers,
