  • [Help]: Pulsar 220 Fi Silencer Problem

I own a Pulsar 220 Fi. It is 2 & half years old and done around 18000 km. Recently there is a bad sound coming from the silencer pipe. Its like something is broken inside, like the partition in the muffler segment. The sound is like a metal is hammering inside a hollow metal pipe (eg. tan tan tan...)...The sound happens till 6000 rpm and then the level is reduced...
It happened when I raced with a verna.
I had spoken with the Pro Biking guys and they says that I had to change the silencer pipe which costs some Rs. 7000/-.
Can anyone provide me with an alternative way like fitting after-market exhaust or repairing the stock one..
    PLEASE HELP...
    Thanks in advance...
    Thanks and Regards

Before going for a change think in this way.

If some one dropped some thing in your Silencer?

If so then there will not be any different sound other than tapping.

just take it to a local mechanic and check removing the Silencer.

Normally in 4 stroke bikes Silencers get effected soon as there is no any oil comes through the exhaust, and the steam residues on the silencer walls. I will put some drops of oil in the silencer once in two months, to prevent such happenings.

        ok

i also had this problem. but i just weld from a very experiance person in scilencer welding.
but after that i again had accident and my scilencer broked in two pieces (near from rear nut). so what i did i met a person who already changed his' 220 scilencer under insurance and i bought that old one which has only one little (not seen able ) in only rs.2000.
        got weld my old scilencer.

actually this pipe has two pipes concentric. so you have to cut the pipe and weld. in jodhpur i have my friend who is 10yrs exp. with pulsar he did this task.

          Thanks

Thanks for your reply guys..i have checked by removing the exhaust pipe..there is nothing inside...any idea about after market exhaust available for P220. Cause I don't trust Bajaj in regards to quality...may be another 2 years after fitting the new silencer it will start making the same noise..Its not possible to change the silencer pipe every 2 years...
          Thanks and Regards

I also face the same noise problem.... I've also checked with local mechanics and even the Bajaj service center they say to change the silencer.. it not actually the silencer but the converter of the silencer underneath the engine

Brother, I think you are talking about the small box under the gearbox..
I don't think it is the converter..it is actually a negative resonator box used to pump the torque in the low revs..
Yes the sound comes from the front portion of the exhaust pipe..and talking about bajaj pro-biking guys, they only knows how to change the spare parts...
lets see what can be done...
              Thanks and Regards

Facing same issue from a week, probiking guys are asking me to get the silencer changed at 8500 rs, the sound is very irriating at certain rpms, i am thinking to buy a race concept free flow exhaust. what do u suggest ? in getting the same silencer fixed there are chances that the problem might arise again.
