  • 2007 P180 DTSi General Qs

    Hello everyone and by now, irritated moderators . I am sorry for starting up a lot of new topics like this, but i am a new bike user and there are a lot of things i would like to know about my bike for which the "user manual" is simply not enough.

    I would rather ask bike users and enthusiasts like you guys who live and breathe bikes, who know about bikes because of a passion rather than a profession, like a mechanic. And plus here, i can get a whole lot more opinions and options and specific examples and experiences.

    Ok, for now those of you wondering, (or just because i want to tell everyone), why am i suddenly asking questions on a 2007 pulsar in 2009. The story is that my brother bought the bike ~September 2008. He used it for sometime, ~15months, ~7500km. He suffered a serious collsion with a hyena, yes thats right, hyena. There was serious injury to pillion. But all is well now. The bike suffered cosmetic damge, well, thats all i know of. The visor and the whole head light assembly was badly scratched. One of the "eyes" has a hole in it, handle bar, brake lever, fork scratched. After this he was in a location where using the bike was not possible so it was in storage for ~ 6 months. Now i got his permission to use it. So i have started and will take good care of it and will return it in the same or better condition if possible. I have alredy changed the head unit and visor. The rest of the scratches are really un-noticable.

    If it is necessary maybe the mods can move all my remaining threads into this one, i am really not sure whether something like that is possible. Please approve this one and ill make sure i post all of my questions in this one unless it really is a whole new, intricate topic.

    Ok, here are my new questions:

    1 On the instrument console, inside the tacho is a red light. What is this for? I have read low fuel, over-rev, etc... What exactly is it? I more towards low fuel, but what exact fuel quantity sets it off? And what is its approximate error? Because i have see it go on and off.

    2 What exactly is "full tank" of 15 liters? How would i get it filled to 15l at a fuel station?

    3 What is my UG version? My wild guess UG3.
    Here are the facts i can give:
    i Purchased Sept 2007
    ii Black engine
    iii Digital console
    iv "Wolf Eyed"
    v LED tail
    vi Rattler
    vii NO tank flaps or scratch pad
    viii Black alloys

    I will post more questions here as i can think of them. PRE-Thank all of you who will participate in this thread. This thread can be of use to other P180 users too.

    Happy biking.

        Your answers are below.
        1) That RED light glows up whenever, The fuel in the tank is below 3 to 4ltrs. and It also glows up when you touch REDLINE of your tacho.
        2)Exact capacity fuel tank is more than mentioned by company.When, i got it filled there was some 17.3ltrs of Petrol that made the tank full upto its throat. Well, to fill it up tell the petrol pump guy "FULL kar do."
        3)UG== upgrade

        your version is UG3.
        UG1= Pulsar DTS-i(without Alloy wheels).
        UG2=Pulsat DTS-i(with Alloy's)
        UG3=Pulsar DTS-i(some cosmetic&engine upgrade)(your's)
        UG4=Current Pulsar's

          The red in-console light serves two purposes.

          One, the light just glows to indicate low fuel (It can turn on anywhere before 50~75 kms u hit reserve)

          The other, as a red line indicator. When u touch 9.5k RPM, this light flashes indicating u to keep the revs down for a while.

          And yes, urs is an UG3
          When everything comes ur way, u r in the wrong way ;)

            THANK YOU for so many, and quick replies.

            The reason i asked for the tank capacity is to calculate my fuel efficiency. My plan was top it up so its 15l and wait for a constant red so i know its left with 3.2l then divide 11.8l by my km run. But that won't work now. I was assuming that full was 15 and red light was at reserve which is 3.2 in the manual.

            4 So can anyone tell me another way to approximate my fuel efficiency?
            EDIT: Sorry, i searched the forum and already found the answer to that one.

            5 Should i use normal petrol or high octane ones?

            6 Is it possible to retrofit the UG4 tank flaps on my UG3? And if yes, any idea on aprox. cost?

              For calculating fuel efficiency follow the tank to tank method, gives fairer results.

              Use normal petrol from a good petrol pump.

              Yes its possible you just need to weld the joints onto the Tank that holds the flaps.

                    I had started a thread on cleaning the air filter. insanebiker had helped me with it and he had told me the procedure. My last question was what type of oil i could use, and he told me any unused oil would do. Since i do not have any unused oil, i need to know:

                    7 Can i use the oil that is dispensed at petrol stations for auto-rikshaws for wetting the foam air filter?

                    Just wanted to make sure before screwing anything up.
                    I posted in this thread so that i dont have multiple active threads.

                    Do the flaps move around, is it on a hinge? Is it heavy enough to need welding, can it be stuck? Im just curious, i dont think i can afford it right now.

                      There is no other way they can be fitted. Because if you will stick them to tank then they would surely come off after some time. So, welding of joints and then fixing the flaps to it through nut to it is a much reliable method.

                        Is the welding to be done on the painted surface of the tank, will it damage it? How is it actually fited in the UG4? Because of the smiley after your first post, i thought you were being sarcastic.

                        Please someone tell me about the filter oil too,

                          No!! i was not sarcastic at any point that i wrote.

                          I donot know what damage will be to the paint because i had not done that.
                          But, even if the tank paint got damaged during the process it will be hidden by the tank flaps or you can ask a bike\car painter to do a touching job of the bike colour. He will hardly ask for 150-200rs.

                              Why do you want to use that crap oil instead go for a new air filter, its not much expensive
