You should not use that because that oil already contains metallic particles. so, when you will use that on your air filter there is a little probability that they will get sucked inside engine, and the oil of rickshaws are not much sticky and will not get much dirt sticked to the foam which will lead to smaller(very tiny) particles of dust passing through the air filter, ask the Bajaj SC which oil they use for the air filter and if possible use Air filter oil e.g. castrol,...

What i meant was, will a new filter come oiled, or will i have to buy a new filter and oil it?

        And secondly:

8 Is there any common brand "Air Filter Oil"?

You mentioned castrol, do they have a specific air filter oil?

No, i think you will have to oil it later, my suggestion: take the air filter to the mechanic and tell him to fit he will do rest of things(oiling,..)
yes they do have i donot know the exact name but check it on there website.

I checked the castrol site, they have one in the intl' site but its not there in the Indian site. Anyway i have done my filter alredy. Thank you for all the help.

Now here is another problem, there is no end to these from me.

My self-start has been having some problems almost from the begining of November, thats when i started using the bike. When i press it, it cranks very slowly for just over a second and stops. Then again its slower and shorter. Then it doesn't fire at all. Instead there is a buzzing sound from that small box to the left of the battery.

I thought maybe the battery is drained so i kick start it and use it. After i faced this issue for the 1st 2-3 days of the month i thought i will avoid the self start as much as possible and let the battery charge. My riding is very limited, just about 50km a week.

Now after riding for some time when i need to use the self in emergency, like at signal or sumthing it works. But next morning the same problem.

My bike was in storage for 7 months, and the battery was connected throughout. But before using it i sent it for service and the SC guys said they charged the battery for 2 days.

Its the stock lead acid battery. The electrolyte level is correct.

9 Is it possible that the battery is permenantly damaged due to the 7 month storage? Or is it just that it hasn't been getting charged enough?

Yes my bet 90% its a battery problem because self starts doesnot gives this much early. Go to a electrical shop(Bikes electrician) or go to bajaj SC and tell them to fit another battery and test if the self works fine thenits a battery problem.

Do you mean the "loose" oil they vend at bunks? I'd not use that. And it isn't autorickshaw specific. Check what oil is recommended. If there is none, just buy a sachet of 2t dude! If you leave it to mechanics, there is no telling what they will use. They will pretty likely use dirty used oil. As long as the filter is in good condition and you can get it clean, there is no real need to replace before the recommended period (if any).

                  Battery problem

                  Buddy,

For the battery problem, check the fuse and the rectifier which re-charges the battery. only after that try and change ur old batteries for a new one, coz it can be a problem with the rectifier.

i guess better goin to a bajaj srvc centre u see a good local mechanic, and tell him ur problem, also tell him to chk and see with another battery.

also i have noticed that sometimes there are carbon deposits in the starter kit. so u might have to get it open and chk for same. i guess dat should help.

if u go a for a new battery directly, there are possible chances of having the same problems, so try and eliminate the problems and then go for a new battery.
Ride Hard !!! Ride Safe!!! Enjoy every moment on your machine !!! Cheers....

                      Yes you can upgrade.
Estimate cost will be 10-15K INR including alloys.
But,instead of spending so much sell your bike for 20-25K INR add 15K INR and rest finance and go for new Bike.

you can use 2t oil sold in satchets to wet the air filter foam after cleaning. but always remove excess oil or else it will restrict air flow.

I posted in this thread so that i dont have multiple active threads.

Do the flaps move around, is it on a hinge? Is it heavy enough to need welding, can it be stuck? Im just curious, i dont think i can afford it right now.

First, i would like to say i did my first speed run today. It was awesome!

I did 101 kmph one way and 103 kmph return, (on speedo) with pillion. I guess i can go faster on the stretch without pillion.

About the starter: I checked the battery circuit with a multimeter, it gives the following voltages:
Open circuit: 12.65 V (both terminals disconnected)
                          Engine Idle :~14.50 V

Im not having the problem consistently. Its like that Murphy's law. When i want to demonstrate the problem, the is NO problem! Let me wait and see. Thanks everyone!

PS: I had seen an FAQ kind of thing about the UG4 on some dealer's website. It was pretty detailed. It answered questions about the new features, like DC system and stuff.

It also had questions like "Is it possible to upgrade UG3 to DC?". It also had a question about the "spoiler". Thats what Bajaj officialy calls what we the tank flaps. I cant find the page again, and i deleted my history! But ill keep looking and post it here.

EDIT: Found it finally. New Page 1 <<Thats the link. They don't develop great webpages!

Hey, here's something i forgot to mention. Its nor a query or a question, rather an incident i would like to mention.

I was riding today on a 2 lane highway. 2 lanes per side. It was fairly free of traffic. There was this green tempo in front of me with these protestor *s*h*l*s loaded in the back. The tempo is going in about the middle of the two lanes. I decide to overtake him. There is a fair amount of space to the right of the tempo, more than enough for a bike to go through.

I line up and start pulsing my horn and overtake, i dont like to scream the horn. As im halfway in, this tempo just veers into me!!!! Im 3/4 in and i freaked!!! I accelreated but he just kept closing and i went right and i heard a bang on my right, but made it through.

Later when i checked, my helmet holder had hit a streetlight on the divider. Thats how much he squeezed me!!! The holder is ruined, but can be replaced for about Rs 200. But even 2 mil can't buy me the word im looking for, to call that "driver".

With people like these, no wonder India has the maximum road deaths! But the problem is he doesn't die, WE do!!!!!

^^ That's sad to hear. You cannot do much about these morons, but you can be extra careful yourself.

Whenever you are overtaking another vehicle, honk for 2-3 times and dip the headlight of your bike so that you can grab the driver's attention. If that guy starts moving towards your lane, honk continuously till the guy stops moving. If he is approaching fast, brake hard and keep honking.

regarding the self-start problem.. well, it might be a loose wiring issue too..
My bike also had a prob.. I used to hear a tick sound on pressing the self-start but no crank. the socket holder for self start which is near the battery was loose.

not sure, just get that checked too..

sorry to hear the truck incident.. nothing much one can do..
generally pass/dip switch works for me.. and trucks give way.. I don't honk unless necessary, as it irritates both me and truck-driver ..
