  • Strange electrical problem on Unicorn

    -Pressed the starter button.
-A small tick sound came and everything shutoff, I mean all electricals like horn,
brake light etc which runs from battery. Even after turning the key OFF and
    ON nothing worked.
-Kick started the bike and all electricals worked.
-Turned ON the light switch(but the bulb not illuminated) and engine has
shutdown, again I had to kickstart the bike.
-Rode for 2 kms and everything has reverted to Normal.

This is the second time I am facing this problem. As far as I know there were no loose connections.
    what happened exactly?

my headlamp setup in the picture.

Nothing would be wrong else than your self starter unit, the pinnion would have got stuck and as you press it the fuse would have blown. thats why no electricals worked. while the fuse is blown the current from your bike will be sufficient only to run the bike and not for your headlamp thats why shut off.
better check your self starter. This is only in my view.

Hope some one else can guide you with some other suggestions.

My first thought was blown fuse. But as I mentioned everything went to normal again. I mean electricals started working including the self starter. that is why I mentioned "strange" problem.

AFAIK The Unicorn has TCI system for the spark plugs. And as you are running our headlight directly off the battery the problem you mentioned is due to low battery. The headlight is causing a lot of battery drain due to which the spark plugs didn't fire strong enough and the engine shut down. And after you rode 2kms the battery got charged to run the electricals properly. Please get a charging mod done to your bike. like coil rewinding.. Or use the yellow wire that's sitting idle to charge the battery via a simple 4 diode bridge rectifier

My fault; The insulation of the wire which I had drawn from the battery to the headlight got damaged and touching the body, hence the problem(short ckt).
My night riding is very very less so not inclining towards charging mod.
About the yellow wire, I've posted about the type of current I am getting from this yellow wire; the current is not AC and is -ve with respect to ground and is not 12v. so I left it disconnected because I don't know how to utilize that current to charge the battery. please take a look at this link and help me if you can figure that out. Thank you.

The shorting of the wire causes excessive battery drain. that is why this happened.I will go through the thread you mentioned and will let you know.
