  • Oil drinking problem with my p180 UG2

    Hi friends,

Over a past few months, my bike has started using up oil. after 2000 kms hardly (50-100ml) oil remains. I Have services my bike regulary and ensure oil change after every 2-2.5K kms. It has done 35K uptil now.

The following info might help you to help me
    -No smoke from the silencer.
-Clutch plates are still the stock and not changed till now.
-Bike fitted with K&N and upjetted to karizma jet when completed around 5000KM
    - Little loss of pickup but i'm getting better mileage than before (before -40 now 45)
    - Stuck my finger in the silencer. can feel presence of oil.

    - No visible Oil leak from any part of the engine

Took to local mechnanic. he said Block Piston and valves need to be replaced.

But bike is running perfectly and smoothly.. and avoiding to open up the engine.

But does a top of 105.

I stay in pune. Any good mechanic to go to? Fareez is not an option.

If Any of you wants any more information. Please ask.

Looking forward to your advices and plan of action to be taken.

is the upjettin done properly?? do not ride with oil less than the required amount.. for ur prob, first try opening the head and replacing the piston rings and the valves.. get the valve mapping done proprly.. this must solve ur prob and try reverting the jet to stock and also try using the stock air box and see..
RED BULL did'nt give me WINGS, my BIKE did !!

u need not open the engine.. all u need to do is -

            1.remove the tank
            2.remove the carb
            3.open ony the head

i.e first open the head cover - this is where u find the taplets, then open the head - this is where u find the valves.. after u have opened this,u'll be able to see the piston... befor this , loose the cam chain tentioner and remove the cam chain form the gear and secure it with some wire..
then remove the cylinder block .. u can then see the piston along with the connecting rod.. just remove the piston from the connecting rod and thoroughly inspect both the piston and the cylinder block walls.. there should not be deep (< 1~2mm ) lines or scratches on either of them..
small scratches which look just like fine lines are ok.. retain all bolts and washers..

since urs is a pulsar and i did all this on a uni myself and on a pulsar 150 by a mech, here goes.. some points may be missin...

now start from the top side of the head, check the rocker arms, the cam gear and the cam chain and replace if necessary.. then goin to the bottom part, after removing everyting, there will be lot of carbon on the head, get it cleaned which they do with some machine in an engg shop.. also at this point, get new valves which have to be put in and they are also put and and " mapped " - which is also done in the same kind of shop.. then replace the pison rings (tell them standard size) and all other required parts along with new oil(castrol active 20w40),put is all together and do a run-in for ~500 kms...also get new plugs - i recommend the ngk platinum g-power for ur bike which r 130/- each.. u can find the part numbers in ngk india website under part search-2 wheelers..
also change all the seals and get the pasted properly with a particular seleant which the mech will know.. they may put grease to seal some stuff, but see that it does not go on the inside..
but if there r deep lines and if the mech says that re-boring is compusary, them get it re-bored.. they may insist on doin reboring even if not necessary to get some money, but ask him why and listen to wat the mech ahs got to say,if it seems like a bluff, the tell him no.. but if it is genuine and if he's able to show u proof like lines, etc then go ahead..

            enjoy

i have uploaded the picks of my uni and few of the pulsar engine internals.. hope this will help..
Picasa Web Albums - rohit - bike stuff

            and abt the mech -
            1. see the shop - it should be big with all the necessary tools and atleast 3ppl..
2.talk to the mech's and see wat they have to say.. u act like u know nothing and listen to what they got to say,if ur convinced and if they look genuine, then go about it.. gat all the spares form bajaj.. will be a day's work and cost approx 1000 including labour till rings replace

            good luck
