  • Issue with fornt disc on ZMA R

    hi friends
i have a 2009 Karizma R and i have done around 4.2k on the odo with no mods
the front disc brake has weakened and it has become worse over last couple of days
last night i was going at 25kph in heavy traffic and at a signal after i applied the brake i almost bumped into another biker in the front
let me also mention these days i have been riding mostly on bumpy roads and bumper to bumper traffic
majority of my braking is done using the front brake
could you guys suggest what could be the possible reason for this and what can be done
also yesterday after 25kms of ride, i noticed some burning kind of smell coming from inside the fairing. it was more like smell of a burnt wire
couldnt take it to a mech immediately as it was 10 in the night
is this any way related to the front disc
    awaiting your response buddies

I don't know much about the wiring issue, as there could be multiple factors. So I'm restricting to help with this one.

Check the color & level of brake oil by opening the master cylinder. If its red in color, no issues, just check for air leaks with the piston & bleed valve; alternatively check for any oil leaks at the end of the hose pipe. If its black, with no second thoughts - CHANGE IT.

Also check how much is your action on the brake lever; I mean, how much you should pull to get a bare braking? Is it start to middle or middle to end or at the end most?

thanks for the fast reply aargee
actually iam a complete neeb to all these technical terms. however once i go back from work i'll keep the manual handy and check for everything you mentioned
Update: About the burning smell, yesterday i inspected closely by riding my bike for around 10km. The engine is getting very hot and its not any burnt wire
the engine seems to be getting more hot than usual

about the usage of brake, i normally pull the lever to the middle and it used to stop instantly. But now i have to press it a bit harder and it takes few seconds to come to halt

Its highly unlikely you might find these info on owner's manual. They might say piston, but its on the cylinder. The one I'm refering to is on the brake lever. So if you're new to it, just understand these points & give the motorcycle to the H.H.A.S.S & sit with them.

Check the color of your spark plugs; if its nearly white, then your engine is running lean & there're high chances of the engine getting hotter.

Yes, so the pressure has come down; chances are that the pads have been worn out. How much does your ODO clock? If its near to 20K, then time to replace the disc pads.

just take the bike to service center for braking... drain the old oil out....put new dot 3 or dot4 oil....and chck discpad.. rub them with sandpaper and put them back

the odo has just clocked 4.2k till now
i was wondering if the break pads would wear so early
And as i mentioned in the first post, these days im mostly riding on bumpy roads(though on these roads i ride slow) and bumper to bumper traffic
does this create any extra pressure on the break pads?
i thought of taking my bike to a local mech, but majority of the people here in chennai speak only tamil, and i dont know the language
somehow i'll try to take help of my friends and take to HHSC

Edit: i have checked the level of brake oil on the guaue that is on the handlebar, its just 1/4 completed

and abt the burning smell , it could be that of the dirt burning off on ur engine if it was raining..
