  • RE Thunderbird timing gears : Help

    Hey,

This is Ankit from New Delhi.

I ve mostly been a pulsar guy, my current steed being a pulsar 220 - dts FI.However, a couple of weeks back, a friend offered me his RE thunderbird, 2006 make, black and 14 k kms on the odo, and i bought it for 50 k.

Im in love all over again , and cant wait to take the steed out for a ride, but the thing is, my buddy had not ridden the bike for over 6 months now, and it had mostly been parked, so i thought i d take it to an authorized service station and get the service done, and so i did (mahendru motors- okhla, New delhi)

But then , the service was shoddy. They even forgot to replace the gear oil after draining it.And also, they billed me for spares like new clutch plates, pressure plates, air filter and oil filter. But i have my doubts, cause , it didnt feel much different from the pre - service level.I mean , with new filters and clutch plates, there should be a noticeable change, for something that has nt been used in over half a year . And the engine heats up to noticeable levels within 15 -20 minutes of riding

now, after some googling, I thought id take it to some good mechanic.I found a place called John automobiles, in mahipalpur(near hotel radisson).
There s some sort of annoying noise coming from the engine. This guy tells me that the timing gear s have to be replaced, and then they d have to be replaced every 15 - 20 k kms.

Could anyone tell me what this typically costs ? This guys asking for 2500, but i just wanted to double check.

Any other tips/advice would also help

    Cheers

        Dont worry, buddy.

All these are typical bullet characteristics.

If you are not satisfied, you can sell the bike to me.

timing gear is cheaper, around 1600-1800 rs.

if you can come to gurgaon, i can send you to some good mechanics at the dealership ( Brawn ) or even at Aman auto.
