  • Apache RTR performance came down significantly...

    hey frenz...

i own an Apache RTR 180 (Feb.'10) n i m done with 2 of the free services... i got my bike serviced 2nd tym on 26-06-2010 n it was ALL OKAY TILL LAST WEEK... but now i m not able to get that RTR feeling... i mean itz pick up came down to a noticeable level... engine noice has been increased... i m worried abt my bike... n one more thing i wanna share is that the 3rd service is due on 08-09-2010 n the recommended kms. are 5500-6000 but due to a much busy schedule i have (as my clg is not in the same city where i live), my bike just clocked 2000 kms. till now... wat could be the cause of all this n wat should i do to rectify the same as i don't want to loose the special RTR acceleration n aggression

i don't have much knowledge in mechanics, but i got a doubt there which could be the cause of all these... its raining almost every alternate day here n i find my bike wet almost everytime i remove itz cover to ride it... so, can there be a possibility that some water is going inside the fuel tank through that breathing hole in the tank? i suspect it coz i feel my bike laging (as we feel when it gets into RESERVE from ON) in the initial 1-2 kms. when i pick my bike when it is wet inside the cover... (as here we ppl dont get garage n all for our vehicles, we have to make them stand outside our homes in open but i keep it covered with a so called waterproof cover but it lets the water through it)

Why you didn't posted this in RTR180 thread????
i have seen your posts there.

There are just two reasons cuz of which, your bike has lost the "kick", First is the air filter, which the dumbo's at the SC never clean properly (the next time you go there tell them to clean it up properly, and tell them not to apply oil in it before fitting it back)
And second, and for sure your jets (read high jet,or main jet,or bigger jet) are definately clogged, get them cleaned.

Though it might not be the reason, but get your fuse's connectors rubbed with sandpaper and fit them back.

The hole which is in the tank and is visible when you open the lid of it,has a routing in the most fcuked way any manufacturer would have ever thought of, as the tank rests on the pipe, that blocks the proper flow, and it results in the overflow of the sump which is inside the lid, and the lid of RTR leaks big time, i too faced the same problem and re-routed the pipe.

Get these things done, you'll have the lost kick back.

thanks for approving and the reason behind getting the text in sms kind of language is that i wrote about the problem in an Apache RTR community (on Orkut) first as i know some of the people there. So, i simple copy-pasted the whole post from there. Will keep it in mind while posting next time, sir.

yes, i use to read that thread regularly and also posted there but i thought that the problem can be generalised too. i mean, the people who own bikes other than RTR 180 can also sugest something for the same, so i posted it here.

And, thankz for ur reply bro. I will keep these point in mind when i will go to the service center but i didn't get the following text.

can u throw some more light on this? i mean which pipe u r talking about and where did u re-rout the pipe?

There's a black coloured thick pipe that routes the water from the "sump" to the ground (it opens near the main stand).

Get your tank opened and re-route it (from behind of the air box)

bro, i went to the SVC today for the 3rd free service... got it done and i m now getting the feeling of my bike serviced... i mean its smooth now and the gear shifting is has also become smooth...

BUT the problem of feeling low at power as compared to wat i use to feel earlier is still there

i asked the guy to adjust tappets and to clean the jets but he told me that ur bike is still just 1.9K kms old so there's no need to do that. so don't get ur bike opened for no reason.

              wat should i do know

I played with the a/f knob today and power delivery improved significantly at all gears. The engine felt smooth. Maybe the service centre guy made the mixture lean. Try and play with the mixture setting. I think this should do the trick.

And thanks Renny for the suggestion

well, you can check if the a/f ratio has gone haywire but i don't think it would be..you say your bike is used very less because of a busy schedule..There is nothing wrong with your bike but with your schedule. New engine oil as well as that which is less frequently used(your case since you use the bike very less) is very dense and needs some time and heat before it turns a little less viscous(don't worry, not enough to screw up your engine). So since you don't use your bike that much, that thick engine oil hampers your performance. Take my advice, warm up the bike everyday for just 5 min before riding. Also, the magic will come if you take your bike for a long ride, you will notice that the performance has increased. Happy riding.

okay bro i will try this one... but as i can't take my bike for more than 60 kms. a day due to the busy schedule, will 60 kms. per day for 2-3 days will help me to get out of it?
and i think u caught the problem right as i started feeling it as soon as it started raining on daily basis. So, probably the cooler weather could be the cause behind it.

okay.. bro, can u tell me how often u ride ur bike and how many kms. in a single ride?

yeah i know that tuning to richer mixture can increase the performance but as the problem started between two services (not after any particular service) so i don't think its a bad/lean tuning problem. And, at the same time, i don't want my bike to drink petrol like a soft drink coz i m a student and have limited money to spend on. I was very happy with the way it performed in the same tuning before facing the problem... still, thankz for ur suggestion as u turned up to write a reply and shared ur views

don't richen your mixture as it will make the bike sputter at higher rpms and will kill the top end

yup even 20 kms of continuous riding would do the job. Don't worry, the problem will rectify itself quickly and with the cold weather coming, i think it's going to be a everyday problem for the next couple of months...
