  • Unicorn at 50,000 kms

my 2006 unicorn (bought it used) has run 50,000 kms (actually its 60 less as i type now) and it has begun to drink and smoke lately, got it's head fixed today for a bent valve but things are not better. My mech has told me to get a new barrel and he's not keen on getting a rebore. so i have below listed options

    1. get a new barrel with a piston
    2. get it bored to next size
    3. get a bigger rebore to higher cc
    4. other options....

and also air screw is stuck need to get a new one how much would it would cost

O.T- all the things have to be done under shoe string budget

Rebore it to next size is the good option here considering the shoe string nature of the budget. But reboring to higher CC makes more sense.

Dude for just 50k i don think u need a rebore(unless u used ur bike without proper engine maintenance) so i would suggest u to have multiple options. *Firstly i strongly guess ur piston rings are worn out. just get it checked if there is any gap in the rings.
*if prob is not with the rings make sure valve are properly lapped
*Finally if both rings and valves are perfect then i suggest u to either rebore to next size(budget work)(if u haven touched engine it should be rebored to .25 i think u can use USHA pistons readily available for 0.25 size, dont go for SAM-) dont think of higher cc reboring as most of the time they are not worth it with very slight increase in performance.
*if U dont want to rebore it then best option is replace with stock borekit. please dont try to fix bigger bore kits cos metal compositions of diff manufacturers(companies and bikes) will b diff resulting in different expansion and contraction of the metal and resultant will be leakages, compression leakages and low performance.

        Good Luck
