hi my name s krishna. i have a 2-3 months old p220. it has clocked 3800kms. it performed well at the starting. i was quite happy with the bike.now the performance of the bike has reduced drastically. the first service was done at 750km and the next service is due at 4500km. i dont understand what the problem is since its a new bike. should i give the bike for service early or should i wait till 4500km mark.. please help.im really angry and frustrated.

    Query Approved.

When you say the performance of the bike has reduced drastically, what exactly do you mean? A detailed post regarding the "reduced performance" would enable us to help you better.

May be you didn't maintain it during Running-In period.
By the way I got my 2nd service done in 2K kms and mine is 6 months old 220. Doing well.

when i meant bad performance the throttle response has gone down drastically. it takes a few sec for the bike to accelerate. and i also need to shift down the gear more frequently due to which the mileage also has come down. while on my way to college today the bike just got switched off. when i started it again it felt like there was a missing like when the fuel is about to get over. i dont understand what the problem is?
regarding service- the service manual says 2nd service is at 4500km.is that right? when did you guys gave the bike for service?well i havent ripped the bike during run in period. infact i hardly go above 100km/hr.does it have anything to do with the air filter? please help

dude, did you ever read the 220dtsi ownership thread?

i dont know about the new lots but irrespective of whichever lot the bike is from and whatever the brand of oil the pbk guys pours in your bike, you have to change your oil (if mineral ) every 1000kms..unless you are using a fully synthetic oil which can be changed every 5000kms max...give the bike for servicing according to manual, but change the mineral oil at every 1000kms.then use motul semi synthetic at 3000kms and shift to motul fully synthetic at 5000kms.(since you have already done 3800,replace it with motul SS at 4000kms and the to FS at 5000kms)..

the airfiler should be cleaned every 2000kms(doesnt hurt to do it more frequently right) and also check the tuning of the carb...remove the spark plugs and see the tip's colour..it should be light brown for almost perfect tuning...if its dark then your bike is running rich and if its white then bike is running lean...

check the tyre pressures...front 30 rear 32 or 34.....also check if your rear wheel is rotating freely and the pads are not obstructing the rear disc...also using good quality petrol from a standard bunk helps

i have the same problem dude. i own a pulsar 220 .it is also 2-3 months old.i have my bike's servicing done few days ago.but now its avg. has come down and also ir takes some time to accelerate.have you ever try any stunt on it.i try it a week ago & i think it is the major problem with this bike...i am also a bit dissappointed with bike's performance.now,i think all you need to do is just keep your bike clean & run it on plain roads for few days & then slowly day after day try to run in the streets of the city i think it would work...just try it once

Dude running it on plain roads or the streets makes no difference. This bike may have a few minor problems here and there but the engine is probably one of the best things that you can get in the indian market. The performance has always been mind blowing. Ive had mine for over a year now and she surprises me everytime with that sheer brute force and torque.
So its probably bad tuning or old oil or slack chain or low tire pressure or probably all of them !
so just look into all these things before concluding that "it has a major problem" .. Even stunts take time to have an effect on your engine ... Just a few stunts here and there are not going to do any damage ...

Didn't agree with you My Pulsar 220 fi has done 26000 km till date, Mineral oil I changed at 3000 km interval and Synthetic at 7000+ kms and till date am running with stock clutch plate, when most of the times I ride it above 7k rpm.
In my R1 I use synthetic oil and it's good even after 5000 km,will change it at 7000km am using Motul 15w50

I think he needs to clean the air filter and fuel filter, then re-tune the bike.

here in hyd, after the pbk guys pour in the mineral oil, after some 800km or 1500kms,its just pure water form dude...no viscosity nothing thats why i quoted like that..for me and other bikes,i have seen that motul lasts only 5000kms max (% of ripping period on highways is more than sane riding)...under sane riding, max i could squeeze out was 6000kms...plz correct me if am wrong but arent we suppose to change the oil if it becomes like watery type fluid right???

                      @ krishna

even i had the same problem with my bike. two things that may work for you are -

                      1. get your bike tuned. it might be running rich.
                      2. adjust the chain slack.

these two things worked for me.

                        I got a small problem today -
There is still enought petrol in tank but my bike was giving me feeling(like it does when there is no petrol) that there is no petrol.
And then again it started working well.
                        What could be the reason?

There is a reed relay and a magnet to activate it ON THE CARB(TRICS).If this is set up badly and or becomes non functional the bike will pull without power and FE will be low. Please see the PULSAR Manual uploaded in other forum, for guidelines.
