  • Abnormal tyre behaviour after Nitrogen fill-up.

    Hello friends,

I filled-in Nitrogen in my P180 ug4 tyres, but after filling it I noticed today morning that the overall mass of the tyre is increased considerably. I mean to say that earlier when the bike was on main-stand the rear tyre was at a distance from the floor, but now the rear tyre almost touches the same floor and one can also easily say it by just looking at the tyres that they are over inflated. But, when I checked the tyre pressures at different pumps 3 times it all showed 42 rear and 33 front(why? N2 mass should not increase with tempreature), inspite of the fact that I filled 30 front and 35 rear (Nitrogen). Any guesses on the possible cause?

    Thanks.

      @abhi...

I think you over-inflated the tires. The manual states a 25 front and 32 rear for pillion rides. It could be a problem with the gauge at the Nitrogen filling station. But it's not safe riding a 42 rear pressure, you either skid and kiss the road or you end up damaging you tires too soon.

I have reduced the pressure from 42 to 35 even currently I decreased it to 32. But the increase in tyre mass is same. The tyre is touching the floor with 32 at rear and it was not the case before. I m confused.. hik..

          wtf??

how old is your tyre and tube???
and also, are you sure that your stand is not damaged.
this should not happen.. i use the nitrogen filling since last 5 months.. i never faced such a problem.. also, when filling nitrogen for the first time, i had kept the rear pressure as 31 and after some riding when the tyre warmed up, i checked the pressure and it was 38 but on cooling, it again reached 32.. try looking at the tyre gap in the morning before you start the ride...

^^Stand is fine, no damage to that. The tyre is behaving the same way whether it is morning or after ride or during ride. It has only traveled 12K kms and was fine before I filled N2 in it.

P.S: It is a tubeless tyre.

switch back to air. there is negligible performance advantage for a road going vehicle to use nitrogen. its just a money spinner for petrol bunks. people dont believe that petrol bunks are providing unadulterated fuel but they think this "nitrogen" is actually nitrogen. lol

Why go for Nitrogen when the air itself is 78% nitrogen ?

Totally agree with yellow spunk, its a money spinner. The petrol bunk guys say it increases tyre life and what all crap. Its totally meaningless and people who have filled nitro air think that they are stepping into the next phase of technology. What they don't realize they have been conned by a personwho claims to be of superlative intelligence.So,abhichotu.abhi, deflate the much hyped nitro air and fill it up with normal air .That should be fine for you

it is not useless.. its not the nitrogen that is the main advantage. its actually the absense of oxygen that is the advantage.

oxygen oxidises the components, causes hardening of rubber and hence causes damage to the wheels. that is the main reason why nitrogen is good since it is practically inert to reactions.

the second advantage is nitorogen molecule is bigger than the oxygen molecule and is hence claimed to have lower seepage losses. i am not fully clear how but since most of the experts claim, i wont go against them.

also, nitrogen has a higher specific heat and hence it can take high speeds for a longer time than normal air.

Me too faced the same problem on my 220, the thing is nitrogen itself is much denser than normal air so it wieghs more.
And the nitrogen is meant for heavy vehicles such as trucks, jcbs, tractors etc it got something to do with the load and heat in those things.
, i didnt deflate the tire completly as i paid 50 bucks just for nothing, so release half of the nitrogen and filled in normal air ,kinda hybrid !. But hey it works ,u dont have to fill air freequently as with normal air and no heavy feel for the tires too.

Got a Feeling that tires got heavy, low pick up, taking more time to hit 100 ..etc. Right after i filled em with nitrogen but not now. nitrogen is a waste for bikes, especially indian bikes. What does it do? Well, nothing.

                            my experiences
1.bike felt light or rather it was skidding in roads with slight mud.
2.i dont need to check air pressure every 3 days
3.its a cheaper option..just 10rs for both tires instead of paying tips for those guys every 2 days
