  • Pulsar 200 tachometer problem

Hi guys, i'm a newbie here and this is my first post. I like to know your opinion about my problem with my tachometer. The initial (Zero) position of the needle is lower than 0 when the i shut it off and the when i start the engine, the pointer is on 0 which means that it was somewhat mis located. Do you have an idea how can i fix this? Thanks in advance.

Get the whole meter assembly replaced if under warranty. If not then open it up man! Be careful though. The problem can be fixed easily by just rotating the needle with your finger. If that doesn't fix it then you'll need to carefully remove the needle and then fix it back properly.

I already did that but to no avail. it keeps on coming back to that silly position.

You opened it up? If you did then try doing some jugaad for a little stopper like there used to be in analog speedometers.
How about you stick it on to the white surface[the tacho dial background] to stop the needle at the desired position?

good idea! i might try it if all else fails. so like putting a pin to act as a stopper?

are the readings of the tachometer correct??
I mean does it show the actual rpm of the engine. if yes hen just do as pravin said

else dont put a pin as a stopper. it will simply give a false reading at engine off and when the engine starts, it will still show what it was showing earlier.

the better and the only way to rectify this is to
              shut down the engine.
carefully open the speedo so that you know how to mount it back again.
remove the needle from its mounting pin.. this is to be done only on the dial side of the pointer. not the other side which is hiden behind the dial.

and then fix it back again at the dial pointing at zero.
(you may need an adhesive at this point. use fevicol but not feviquick cos if you somehow go wrong, you will be able to pull out the needle again)
if the dial cannot be removed, then take it to the showroom and ask them to remove the pointer from its pin.

                @ROCKRZ

i already did that. I successfully removed the needle then turned on the engine and let the pin stop on it's natural position then mounted the needle again @ 0 position. It worked for several kilometers but then it came back to that silly position again. One thing i noticed is that, it's worsening when the bike is not running. See the actual pics above?when i woke up next morning, the needle went farther to clockwise than what i saw when i turned it off. I also thought that, putting a super glue but based on how hard i pull it off, i don't think it needs it. I'm getting annoyed of this problem. any other ideas?or should i glue it on?

is the needle loose on its mounting point???
try putting a very thin wire while pushingthe needle in to tighten the things up.

else the pin is ok if this problem repeates itself. but in this case, it is better if you replace the tachometer since it has developped a high internal slip

no it's not loose. actually, it's very hard to remove. You need a thin blade to pry the needle out. Oh well, i might try that pin stopper thingy.

You will have to replace the tacho-machine. There was a similar case with my bike too when the tacho showed the reading on it's own, sometimes when the bike was at 20kmph in 4 gear it showed 7K RPM. The problem was solved by taking the bike to a local meter repairing shop, he replaced the machine; cost was some 150Rs.(or less I did'nt remembered)

Would you please explain more ? Where you've installed the stopper ?
