  • Its been 1200 kms. & I have not serviced even once.. Will & How can my bike suffer?

Its been 3 months with my Suzuki GS150R & as the title says, I have not changed oil & did nothing with my bike :-S
My friend told me that since I ride very smoothly, there wont be a long term problem & I should service asap..
The reason is Laziness & ignorance :-S because the SC is 15 kms. Away :-(

Another thing is that now all 3 free services are over, so I have to go for paid service! Then from a local mechanic or the SC? Which will be better & cheaper?

P.S. If you can suggest a good mechanic in Mumbai..
And please answer all queries of mine :-)

If I understand correctly, your bike is just 3 months old. Then how are all the free services over?

15 km..hmmm.. How the hell that could be an exception for not doing servicing ? How are those free servicing over?
Local mechanic is not an option for SC.
First 1000 km is the most delicate period in any bike's life. This period decides bike's future for next 50k km. So congrats for ruining it.

dude, i think the TS meant that after the last free service, its been 3 months and 1200 kms. for which his bike didn't get any sort of servicing or engine oil change.

quite confusing way to write.erlier, even i thought the same as these 2 guys above but reading the whole thing and thinking on the same made me understand what he actually want to ask

          @TS

correct me if i m wrong

If you are mentioning that you've not had the mandatory 1st and/or the 2nd, I guess the best thing to do would be, tear off the free service coupons for those not availed and then get the bike for servicing ASAP. You can always lie that the bike's been serviced as per schedule, but at a different showroom .
And if you are referring to what Garry has quoted, there is no worry at all, most bikes have an interval of 2000 KMs or 3 months, whichever is earlier for each subsequent service.

if u have driven the bike gently then nothing much would have happened. relax

but the first 1000km are a critical period of a bikes life. the metal particles eroded from the moving parts of a new engine during run in flow with the lubricating oil and may cause more wear and tear. thats why the first oil change is quicker at around 500-750km than the regular change every 2500-3000km.

the engine oil needs to be replaced as soon as possible.

Dude 1st of all how did you manage to finish all 3 free services within 3 months & 1200 kms???
WRT the distance, it'll be alright to service the bike from a local mech only if he is trustworthy (read: someone you or your friends know)
WRT the cost factor, just think of it in this way. God forbid, if you fall ill, will you go to a cheap doctor who you don't know close to your house or will you go to a reputed doctor who is specialist in the field a little far from your house?
Your answer to the above question will give you the answer to your question regarding your bike.

Tearing off the service coupons is not a very wonderful idea I believe. Th3e Company maintains the Service schedule of the bikes, and anytime, in future, if there is a concern with the warranty, the company might pull out the records.

I think you already lost the warranty by not going for the free services. best is go to a service center or you can go to a local mechanic if you trust him.

Not availing any of the free services voids the warranty. Going to any local mechanic other than an authorized service center also does the same. If he's skipped the first, he at least has a chance to get the second and third services done with the free service coupons and has a chance to claim warranty in future since he would have these service bills. I would hardly be optimistic that Suzuki is going to accept the fact that the bike was not serviced on time since the service center was 15 kms away.
