    Afternoon Nightmare(Oil Query)

    I recently got some stuff done up in my bike including changing the timing chain,adjusting the clutch plates and tightning the valves and and the mech replaced the oil which was due to be changed anyways.. he put in Veedol 15w/20 since there was no other oil avaible anywhere...the problem is that in the afternnoons or when the bike heats up..the engine noise increases and the bike feels ruff along with a drop in proformance...in the evenings or n cold weather the problem disappeares...this was present even before i got the oil and timing chain done up..but its become more promnent now...what could be the problem?is Veedol ok?if not what grade and brand of oil should be used to get good proformance in hot weather?
    my bike is a p150dtsi v1

      15W20 ??

      If you are sure its 15W20 then that explains why you are having problems as the bike heats up. The recommendation for a P150 is 20W40 if I remember correctly so in your case, the oil is thinning just too much at higher temperatures - it will cause premature wear and tear in the engine. Pls change to recommended grade 20W40 oil ASAP. That will solve the problem.

        20W40!!

        i thought so

        till date whateva the bajaj guys put in was ok (if not good) but i was not very happy with the work they did on my bike so took it to a mech my friend reffered to..

        these oil grade numbers are so confusing....
        and which brand should i use now??

        and cant i use the current old for another 1000kms or so before changing it??

          @Richard: The "shock" () emot-icon at the end of the first line of your last post suggests that you did not know that Pulsar 150 uses a 20W40 grade oil, didn't you know!!??

            you put in the wrong grade oil into the Pulsar. You should drain the oil out and put in Castrol Power 1 oil which has the correct grade according to the specification of the pulsar 150

              @Aryan - i never really bothered before i just used to walk into the bajaj service station and tell them to change the oil..assuming they know what to use.. but this time i got my bike done up by a mech who works in the service centre...and i was gone from his shop for just a minute...when he changed the oil...the oil bottle had veedol speed written on it...and i again assumed that since he works for bajaj he would know the rite oil to put in..

                    I am wondering if a 15W20 greade oil really does exist?

                      ive got a weak memory ...it could be 15w50 or 15w30 or something but i am sure it had 15 in it!!...it was "Veedol Speed"

                        Currently i m using Motul 5100 15W40 4T Semi-synthetic oil in my ZMA....!! pretty good outputs...

                          Inder, Motul 5100 is 15w50 grade oil, not 15w40. My karizma never liked a w50 oil. Whenever I used a W50 oil, the gearshifting had become very hard. All the occasions I reverted back to the 10w30 of HH stock engine oil, and the gear shifting became normal. After using all types of oils, I finally settled for the HH 10w30 oil. It is the best for karizma.

                            and guys what does these numbers 20w50 or 15w 40 indicate???
                            is it got to do with the thickness??

                              Its been around 4-5 months...!!
