  • Pulsar 150 UG4.5 Issues,Clarifications and Advises Needed

    Hello All,

Been 20 Days Since I purchased the new Pulsar 150 UG 4.5 .Just from past 4-5 days I am Feeling that the handle is shaking Little bit on higher speeds[40-60] when pillion rider is present not sure why?

Also Noticing some gar gar sound on higher gears coming from engine @40-50 on 4-5th Gear. Asking this as I feel new editions of pulsar have come up with smoother engines in 2010 release Upgrade for Pulsar 150.

Bike Guru's also Advice me for what necessary measures should I be taking for this Newly Purchased Bike.

    Thanks
    Rahul

Almost all Pulsars have a minor steering wobble at certain lower speeds (thanks to impeccable Bajaj engineering!!!). This kind of wobble is best seen when you let the bike slow down on it's own after holding the clutch & closing the throttle from a 50km/h speed. Another way is to let the bike slow down on it's own with your hands off the steering from 60 km/h speed (Don't do this if you're not used to some hands-off riding earlier). At some point during the deceleration you experience the wobble.

However, if your steering wobbles when you accelerate quickly, then it could be a case of improper fitting of the cone set, or the rear wheel not being in line (aligned) with the rest of the bike.

          Care

As far as general care for your Pulsar is concerned, with Bajaj bikes you have to respect the bike a lot so that it does not give you any trouble in the long run. Adhere to all to-do's given by Bajaj in the user manual (that means you have to read it)
If you tell us your location, it'll be easier to direct to the right person.

Some observations for care resulting from my long association with my Pulsar:

            * Pay attention to service Kilometers and Service time according to User Manual. This'll keep you always prepared for a warranty claim, believe me, you'll need it and manage to have your way if you're vigilant.

            * Have your parts replaced as per the workshop manual specified kms (can be downloaded from an xbhp thread for the same).

            * Don't be a sissy... it's a bike not a person or a pet, let it rip and enjoy the experience from time to time.... BUT respect the bike's limits (Braking, road-grip, stability) for the sake of both your life and your pocket.

            * Actually sporty riding after the run-in period will only make the engine better provided you take good care of service...

            * Learn to differentiate between critical and petty troubles, this will save you a lot of time, frustration, energy and a lot of money!!

            * There's nothing wrong with admiring an RTR, R15 or a P220, but respect your bike for what it is, it's a good bike. If you're going to miss this then you'll mess up your ride.

            * Once you replace your installed Disc Brake-pads after their eventual wear (~ 20000 kms), the replacement pads will wear off quicker than your original set(~ 10000 - 15000). So don't be alarmed at this.

            * If you run into unfamiliar territory with anything regarding your bikes maintenance or problems, ask at XBHP, after all this the biggest community of true enthusiasts who happen to own the largest selling 150 sporty-commuter in the country...

Dont blame just BAL for wobbling front-end..it could be caused due to a variety of reasons. Check if all the bolts on the Swing arm are properly tightened(this was the cause of one wobbling RTR160)

P.S.: Even Ninjas have a wobble at similar speeds while decelerating. The problem can be replicated on any and all Ninjas.
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

I wouldn't know anything about a Ninja's steering wobble but when it comes to Pulsar 150 classic and 150 UG2, let me assure you - I KNOW what I'm talking about.

I find it far fetched for someone even in the mildest of senses to compare the steering parameters of a Ninja to a Pulsar, they have very different Dimensions and weight ratios.

I do ride and maintain an Apache 150, I have a number of friends who purchased Pulsars, Apaches and CBZs during the day. When I say that almost all pulsars have a minor steering wobble... I certainly am making an informed statement with inference from my considerable ownership experience, so don't come FANBOYING to me, I've been and still am a fan of the Pulsars but one shouldn't get all partial when discussing about a bikes limitations, strengths and technical parameters.

If you ever did read my post properly, I clearly laid inference that the slight wobble whilst decelerating is normal and nothing to be alarmed.... Again, please read and let things run (albeit slow) in your mind before you post...

@Fayad: No man they don't wobble. They vibrate like idiots. if they wobble then there's some issue.
@manasmahaan: The UG4.5 is the latest version of the P150. The UG stands for UpGrade. The UG4 came with full black engine and wheels and the tank panels and 3D chrome logos. The UG4 was upgraded with clip ons and then the UG4.5 was born.

If you're referring to the Ninja, then I have no idea, not by a freaking mile....

IF you're talking about the Pulsar, then I assure you, repeat the deceleration as I mentioned in my post above and you'll see the steering wobble SLIGHTLY like a tiny fish's tail. You'll know that this is a design character of the vehicle when you ride CBZs, Apaches and even Fieros, which decelerate steadily and then begin wallow around owing to slow speed. I've verified this on a number of Pulsars, though there is a chance this has been considerably reduced in the latest UGs ( I seriously doubt that, because the chassis has been the same all along)

@Fayad: man I am talking about my own 2008 180UG3.I've never ridden a ninja and believe me my bike never wobbled when decelerating. I invite you to ride my bike. It has done 17300kms exactly today and the cone set is the one that came with my bike. Still no wobbling whatsoever.

@pavanchirmade - I'd love to have the opportunity to try your pulsar, which I don't see happening anytime. However, I did say that almost all Pulsars have the wobble, could be that you're immensely lucky. One piece of info though, don't quickly mess up the first cone set that came with your bike, it's after the replacement, the wobble becomes more notorious!, I wonder if the SVC guys are trained at all...

                            Hi Rahul,

Was the handle wobbling problem solved during the 1st servicing of your bike? If yes, can you tell me what was the solution for the issue?

I am facing the same problem in my P150 (UG4.5). The handle starts wobbling at the speeds of 45+.

I have yet to get my first servicing done. If this problem is not rectified then, I am going to escalate the matter to Bajaj.

                            Thanks,
                            Saaket.
