  • Throttle lock

Recently when I was bringing some stuff on my bike, I kept that carrybag on the handle of bike, in the small gap between throttle and the buttons. Somehow, that acted as a throttle lock, so even if I left the right hand and not grip the throttle, the bike kept its speed. I could easily vary it by slight twist. It was a great experience, and I would love to integrate it with the throttle.

I have seen a few products online, available in US, that can be used as throttle locks. The idea is to temporarily disable that spring which rolls the throttle back to its original position. i know it can be dangerous and all, but on open roads, I want to cruise at a certain speed, and it's bit tiring to keep holding that throttle. Any ideas on this matter?

While searching online for a DIY thing, I found out this juggaad, that may be tried on our bikes:

I had a fall on my RTR a few weeks back, where the bar end weight had gouged out! It was pretty funny as it acted as a throttle lock!

It was pretty fun to have tool in my daily Vasai-Vashi-Vileparla-Vasai marathon!

Just imagine ur cruising at 80Kph with your throttle locked and hands off the grip may be riding with one hand and the tube or tyre gives way, I know this hardly happens but if that's your lucky day then what could be your idea of fun ??

And what do you think you will be able to do with two hands?

Its not that the throttle lock will remain like that, you can twist it back too

Glad to see people are interested. Any DIY ideas? I may try that idea from the above photo. just thinking how to get that much small bungie cord?

EDIT: @edferns: the idea is not to ride the bike by only one hand, while using the other hand for scratching It is so that our throttle hand can relax, and be used only for controlling speed, not holding it.

Or rather its put to use only in case when you want to go into autopilot mode (or want to use your hand for ... er... )

In my case im following a Simple Technique

I Used to do this most of the TImes when im in a Free Flow Road

Just use the Throttle Grippers - the after Market grippers which are available in local shops

I used to cut the endge of those grippers and when the road is free i will pull it up to the Switches area and then leave my bike in a constant speed and the Throttle locks easily - i used to lock it when im using a Mobile or something or adjusting my rain coat

Simplest of all Throttle locking technique

I got the idea of using an O-ring for throttle lock.

But I can't find the damn thing anywhere! I tried almost all shops, but none so far in Pune/Mumbai/Thane has this item in stock, or many haven't even heard it. Any idea where such o-rings can be bought?

Updating my own thread. After trying numerous shops all over mumbai, thane, pune, even some in goa, NJP (!), Kolkata, I got no O-ring that I require. Meanwhile, my friend brought a crampbuster from US. I didn't use it on previous Caliber115. This week, I got to test it on Vesta, my GS150R on Pune-Shrivardhan trip. I will give it 4.5/5 stars! Really helps the tourers. And not just on open roads, even in ghaats it was of great help. Fits perfectly to normal handlebars, and quickly removable.

                    Crampbuster

                    My model is CB1.

I highly recommend this little tool to all tourers, this greatly reduced the strees my throttle hand usually feels after a long ride.

@thunder: nopes, nothing like that in India. It's a patented design, which allows you to rotate the crampbuster away freely, but when you press it down ie accelerating the bike, it is locked in position. Due to the patent, you won't get the same stuff from any other company.

In any case, the product costs some 10$, and even cheaper in some sale sites. Find few ppl, and place a bulk order It's totally worth it.

Hey! Nice find buddy. I was looking at the same kind of products on NewEnough and wondered if we can fix a jugaad for the same. I'll check if I can get it through a friend. If there is a group order, I'm the first in line.

Here're are a couple of ways.
On bike with bar end weights, loosen the throttle assembly ever so(so so.. just enough) slightly. and then twist the throttle and pull the whole assembly the right and voila, it stays there, until you jump a pothole or give it a nudge to the left. Its quite very easy to do this
This I did on my pulsar after I saw it on a friends modded bullet.

For a bike without weights, like the rx, push the grip to the left where it rubs against the cable housing.

And I think it's not always a good idea to do this on a 2
                              stroke.

I've been doing this for a long time.
But never told anybody before coz I'd be called an idiot for doing something so stupid.
