Anyway, GET THE PART REPLACED & there's no second thought about it. If the dealers say they'll fix it then I see only one reason - no available of spares.

If the dealers do not replace it, write to HH directly at any cost. Do not compromise!!!

Do one thing, in the owener's manual you can find the e-mail id of the regional office of Hero Honda. Sent them a mail with a cc copy to that service centre. enquire the names of the people you had a talk at the service centre and write a mail quoting their names. Further, call the Regional office and remind them about the e-mail you have sent to them. That might work.
I am having a HH Hunk and I have replaced the swingarm as the stock swingarm was rusty.
One thing, if there is no parts avaiable, then asked them to write a mail to you stating that they'll change the faulty part as soon as they get it. Now, keep a print out of the same and show that at the Service Manager of the service centre.
After all its a manufacturing defect, they have to replace it.

We have called up the HH people (who are based in Haridwar, incidentally) and my sister is trying to get them to do something. I will keep you people posted on what happens.

Also, I don't know why but I didn't get any of your updates on mail! I don't remember selecting "unsubscribe" or something similar on xbhp! Will have to manually check the thread frequently!

Whenever such issues arise regarding failure of OEM components in the warranty period, you should never go for a repair when a replacement is possible. The company is liable to replace the part if it has a major defect like in your case, a leak in the fuel tank. So come what may, do not agree for a repair. If the company is adamant on doing a repair, try to explain in a civilized manner first, if it doesn't make a difference, threaten legal action in the consumer court.
