  • PULSAR 180 gettin back fired

Hey friend, im having a pulsar 180 since 5 yrs. it has an K&N air filter. since few days while riding the bike it suddenly starts to loose power like when the petrol gets empty, the same way it happens. sometimes it does not starts only and after many attempts it finally start. the mechanic guys told me that its due to the air filter as its open and dust particles gets collected in it. but the air filter is since 2yrs and till now i didn't face any problem like this. so guys pleas help me out, should i change the filter or wt should i do ????

there are surely advantages but there are alot of disadvantages of K&N which u dont observe immediately but lately which u r already going through ur mechanic is exactly correct, air filters are designed and made considering the over all performance of the engine people just carried away with unwanted modification's and result in screwing up the engine.
finally one suggestion remove the K&N and start riding on theh stock air filter and enjoy long life of the engine and be maintenance free guy my personal opinion to u,depends upon person to person take care and ride safe

Get rejetting done, upjet with appropriate jet size. Your bike is running too lean that is causing the backfire.

thnaks for your valuable advice RX88. the thing i liked in my K&N was that i get good instant pick up and nice sound from that. my mechanic said tat i need to cover the air filter to prevent this prob i.e i should cover the filter with the stock filter case keeping the K&N as it is. so wats your take on this ???

Yes, pick-up will increase and the mileage will decrease. For k&n most of the times upjetting is required. Go to a appropriate mechanic who knows what upjetting is and tell him to upjet for k&n.

If the mechanic doesn't understand what exactly upjetting is then just tell him that carburettor ka jet bada karneka hai and he will do it.

That will depend on how you ride. But, 5 kmpl or more decrease will be obvious.

As you have already fitted k&n and want good performance from it then you will have to up-jet. No other option. If you want good performance with current jet size then switch to stock setup i.e. air filter.

I have already answered this. Anyway, if you can bear mileage drop thne it is worth. For normal commuting job k&n is not worth the price.
