    Carburetor Problem on a Pulsar 150

    Hi guys,

    I'm encountering this problem with my 2005 pulsar 150, was hoping you guys could throw some light on the issue.

    The bike starts up nicely but shifting into the second and third gear is when the problem occurs. The bike seems to lose power<feels like the engines about to switch off, or like its missing> for almost a second, and then jumps!

    This used to keep happening too often and recently it worsened. It would start up, but just as <even a little> acceleration was given, it would switch off.

    Had the carburetor cleaned, which made it work like before, with the loss of power an pull in the 2nd and 3rd gears. And this is not the first time I'm having the carburetor cleaned. But the problem just seems to have gotten worse.

    A mechanic told me some time ago, that the problem was my carburetor is faulty and that needs to be replaced. Could this be the solution?

    Please tell me what the problem could be, and the solution for this.

      Amit best would be take the bike to a authorized service station. Your mechanic is an idiot, you don't need to change carbs you can change the defective parts of the carb. These old time mechs dont understand CV carbs. In a CV carb the needle which delivers petrol from 1/4 throttle to 3/4 throttle is not directly connected to the throttle as in conventional carbs . IT is connected to a diaphragm which lifts according to the vacuum inside the carb. So your problem can be because of a torn diaphragm or plugged orifices and also sometimes wrong box back after cleaning the carb.

        maybe you gotta check the clutch and its parts (clutch wire,clutch plate.. etc.. ).. but u say that the shifts are smooth.. just give ur clutch a check.. then give it to ur auth. service..

        or check ur gear box as well.. as far as i know.. the gear controls the flow of fuel into the engine..

        pls. post the solution here if you got it solved.. it helps everyone here..

          My p180UG3 had developed a similar issue where the bike seemed to jerk and misfire and make weird noises. The bike used to behave as if there was water in the carb/ tank.
          I tried cleaning the carb, the tank, no use. Then I finally took it to the service station. They changed the spark plugs and voila! Problem gone!

            It is hard to believe you didn't check the plug yourself because you are knowledgeable in this.Was it during warranty time ? I always had probs with Champion plugs..be it the car or the bike..was yours the same ?

                To anyone who's interested, just an update.

                I removed some fuel outta my tank in the morning and now it seems to working fine.! I rode to the A.S.S and explained the problem, they had a test ride and couldn't reproduce the problem, so no work was done on my bike.

                Probably the problem was some junk in the petrol, so I'll be keeping my bike in cleaning the petrol tank and the pipes.

                    Gearbox has nothing to do with fuel flow. You r mistaken

                      Hehe...psr dude this incident dates back to 2008 when I was a n00b and the bike was new. And I did remove the spark plugs back then. They physically looked OK. So I didn't bother about them much!

                        posting the solution: Got the fuel tank, carburetor, and the engine head cleaned. the bike feels much more stable now.
