  • What will happen if I put 17" wheels on my classic pulsar

I need to change my tires and wanted to put tubeless. Especially something like the stock R15 tires.

I am having spoke wheels...So I need to buy new alloys anyway. Thing is, I want to know whether to put smaller 17" wheels or existing 18".

I have a classic pulsar chassis and (dunno if this makes a difference) the dtsi gas rear shocks and dtsi swingarm.

Also I'd like to know the advantages/disadvantages of putting smaller wheels.

I am incined to buy OEM alloys from Bajaj/HH depending on the size; but if you have any suggestions, I'll be happy to consider it..

    Thanks!!

u won't have any issues using 17" mags.

My suggestion will be to go for after market alloy or hero honda (may be little expensive) but go for only 18". Reason being a bigger tire in bigger alloy will go farther distance during one revolution, you need less engine rpm's to turn it as classic pulsar already have less horses then dtsi.
Another point alloy size also affect the mileage though a little and also the speed of your vehicle is high with bigger wheel.

If you change alloys to 17" your odometer if its from classic may not show you the correct reading. second mileage will go down a bit.

i just made a switch from spoked wheels to alloys last month. but i fitted aftermarket 18 inch alloys that look exactly like the original one!!!! plus they were bout 2000 rs cheaper. and have installed a tubeless 120/80 mrf rear tire on it ....no problems whatsoever.

i know they are aftermarket.....but i was like ...."big deal, its fine."

i too pondered with installing original bajaj 17 inch alloys ( u can search some of my threads with questions on this topic!!!

but, installing those wheels apparently have issues at front and back
(front cause of some front wheel hub and forks things, rear cause of newer hubs being smaller than classic hubs....but u mentioned having the dtsi swingarm....but do u still have the classic hub or no???)

and also....i do agree...sticking with 18 is better....cause the smaller diameter wheel will hurt top end performance

            hope this helps

              Disadvantages:

              1 Lower Top Speed
              2 Less Milege

              Advantages:

              1 Better Pickup
2 You can Get many gud tyres as right now most of the bikes coming with 17" .

Thanks.. and yes your thread answered many of my q's.. .

About the rear hub; no its not changed and I was also considering changing the rear sprocket.. in which case the hub should also be changed..
Thanks to everyone else for answering the queries

Well I had done the exact opposite on my old Pulsar 180 UG3 cos wanted to fit tubeless tyres. Fitted 18' alloys (stock were 17'). It did not make much difference except, when on the main stand, both tyres touched the ground!
I think if you fit 17' alloys instead of 18' spokes would improve handling, although marginally.

See this thread^^^. All your queries should be answered in that thread
Have done the same thing. The 17 in wheels improve the handling to a great extent. The bike feels lighter and a lil smoother. The only drawback is that the initial pick up drops due to the size. Otherwise no issues at all. Its been a year and a half since the mod and im loving it.
