I dont get it how clutch balancing can be a problem (dont know if this exists, but if it does) , the plates were changed at second last service, since then its atleast 2.5K km done, and i didnt noticed any vibes then, only after this service i found the vibes, also there was no noise previously.. if plates were imbalanced, it would have been since start.. or could it be that they got imbalanced over the time by themselves?

No thanks! I just shared what I had experienced.Originally posted by psr View PostHey abhi...Thanks for bringing it up and explaining,esp., since I had learnt a new aspect of modern Bikes.Yes there does seem to be clutch out of balance correction needed, in high power engines with multiclutch
plates.

THANKS AGAIN FOR GIVING ME KNOWLEDGE.

As the clutch plates were changed in your bike therefore the clutch setting might have disturbed. I donot know alot about clutch setting, but there is a fixed pattern of fixing the plates, which if disturbed might cause problems like vibrations and ... This might be the problem with your bike.Originally posted by Freakout4321 View PostI dont get it how clutch balancing can be a problem (dont know if this exists, but if it does) , the plates were changed at second last service, since then its atleast 2.5K km done, and i didnt noticed any vibes then, only after this service i found the vibes, also there was no noise previously.. if plates were imbalanced, it would have been since start.. or could it be that they got imbalanced over the time by themselves?

I guess clutch balancing was not much known in the days of 2 strokers since there were enough vibes otherwise.But with more and more 4 strokers coming in we started looking for "smoothness" of engine.Any circular motion brings with it centrifugal force,and any unbalance makes it go out of the center of circular motion.
We never used to do wheel balancing for our old fiats and ambys..but to-day even a Nano has wheel balancing done.I think our Pulsars and RTRs,CBZs and all the vehicles hitting 100Kmph should go for wheel balancing .
@Freakout
Was the clutch or housing opened and some work carried out ?If so what work ? Like Abhi said nothing wrong in asking the A.S.S to do Clutch balancing done for you.

There are multiple issues:
a. There's an oil seal leak in there somewhere. That reads like about 20 bucks worth of rubber, and labor charges
b. The balancer shaft as it is called makes your ride miserable/vibey even as low as 40 kph. My bike had an issue with it & it costed 1k + labor (who says bajaj is cheap??). It is a part which is mostly replaced by service centers - in mumbai they even repair it but I wouldnt trust it - there is nothing else to "balance" in the clutch that they'd charge you money for it.
I'd suggest if you're around South Delhi - give my old mech Jitender (Gautam Nagar) a visit. He's a good guy and will atleast diagnose it properly. 9810550243http://www.bikenomads.com/wiki/index.php/Leh - All you ever need to know about getting Leh'd.

haha , they set the balancer gear timing and adjust the load on the Scissor gear in pulsar's clutch assembly :P , and as far as i know , there is no Scissor gear or balancer gear in Apache :POriginally posted by abhichotu.abhi View PostA year ago, I had changed the clutch plates of my Pulsar 150. After that the bike was having excessive vibrations. I complained and the Bajaj SC told that the bike needs Clutch balancing or setting which will need the clutch assembly tobe opened up and after whatever they did the vibrations were gone. And this time too when I bought Pulsar 180 it was having excessive vibrations (even without any clutch plate change) took it to a different SC this time and they too told that clutch setting\balancing needs tobe done and the result was no vibrations (except those which are apart of the bike) were there.
For more queries, please ask the mechanic (SC or your prescribed) if there is any type of clutch setting or balancing for which the clutch assembly is opened up, he will tell you exactly what it is.
@topic ,
the oil doesnt leaks from that region , the service center guys may be true , try wiping and running for some days .
Vib and sound : check if your drive chain is properly lubricated , check for fairing and cowls vibrations , check timing chain and tappet settings . Tighten the Engine foundation bolts ,check both wheel bearings ..Last edited by k_tornado_sj; 10-21-2010, 01:16 AM.
