  • Apache 150 upgrades

    Hi,

I own a Apache 150 2006 model. My bike is 4 years old and has clocked 32K kms till now. I love customizing my bike and have changed a lot of things in it since the last two years which includes: a) new paint job (mix of black and european blue), b) gear & brake assembly of RTR 160 (for a more sporty look) c) regular handle bars to clip-on, d) engine belly of RTR 160, e) rear fender of RTR 180, f) wider 110 tyre in rear, g) K&N air filter, h) Iridium spark plug, i) 55W bulb instead of stock 35W bulb (also used HID but battery did not support) and j) replaced the stock exhaust with an old pulsar exhaust (fitted inside a FZ cover).

I have faced a few technical glitches during the usage.
    a) According to my mechanic, because of the short handle, the clutch cable develops a problems and the gearing becomes extremely tight. Can I use RTR 160 cable along with the RTR clip-on handle bars/ or the stock handle instead of the stock 150 cable? Will that make a difference?

    b) I used the HID kit for a few days and the mechanic had attached a switch on the handle bar and it was powered by giving a direct connection from the battery. But after a few days, the battery got drained off completely. Even a 55W bulb doesn't works on my existing system. I have changes the battery (Exide 12 Amp) and have charged it six times till now and the rectifier twice. But no effect. Please advise whether there is a solution or should I go back to the stock 35W bulb (which I hate because of its low power). Or, please me know any good bulb in 35W as replacement.

    c) What could be the possible effects of replacing the complete exhaust assembly with that of FZ or R-15 or P220? The main reason is that my exhaust pipe has completely rusted and I have not come across any person only replacing the pipe and not the complete system.

    d) I wish to change the existing meter with a digital one from FZ or Apache RTR-180. Can that be done? What possible changes would be required for the same?

The budget is not a problem for me. If anyone is aware of any good mechanic who can solve even one of my queries, it would be great.

I can clarify in only the following areas:
1.If you are going to demand more power from the electrical system...then you have to make it capable of it.The Stator coils generates the power required by the Bike.So you have to increase the thickness of the coil wire in the stator ,and rewind the stator,to give more AMPERE capacity.
Your old Regulator,Rectifier must be removed and a RR capable of handling it must be fitted.
2.The crankshaft of TVS Apache and RTR 180 are the same. You can try upgrading the engine..ONLY IF YOU AND YOUR MECHANIC ARE KNOWLEDGEABLE IN THIS MOD.Otherwise you will ruin your engine.

Changing the present console to digital involves a lot of sensors fixing, changing panel, and change of the entire wiring loom. The cost, complexity, and end result may not be worth the effort.

      Hope this helps
