  • Pulsar 220 F chain cover issue

    Hi guys...

I had bought my Pulsar 220F on 22nd of September 2010 and have completed 900kms on the bike and the first service has been done.

The bike is simply amazing and after the first service, it has become even better. I had a few issues with Cold starts in the initial stages but all has been sorted now and everything is fine with the bike except for one thing.

Whenever I go over a small pothole, I notice a weird sound in the rear near the chain cover. I had told the service guy about it and he had tightened the chain and I thought the issue will be sorted, however, I notice that it still persists.

    Now, I have a question..

Should I go and get the chain tightened again (I think the problem will persist again and hence not in this favor) or I should remove the chain cover instead ?? Or there is any other solution ???? (please specify)

Please help me with this guys...

Also, I had changed the oil of the bike at the time of the first service and I am advised that I should get it changed after 10k kms but I am not in this favor as I have read some reviews about Bajaj oil. I will change the oil after 1k kms from now...I have shortlisted two of the oil products..infact 3...

    Valvoline Premium 20W50 SS

    Motul 5100 4T 15W50

Motul 3000 or something....not sure about it's name

Please suggest me which one is the best????

    Thanks for your help guys..

If the issue is with a loose chain, you would hear a noise even when you start moving on the bike. The problem might be something else, have it checked properly.

Motul 5100 is a Semi-Synthetic oil and I think you can go for it.
Don't go for Motul 300v, it is fully synthetic and you can probably use it after your bike clocks 5k+ Kms
Valvoline seems to be the most popular for pulsar, you can try that as well.

are you sure that the sound is coming from the chain cover itself or is it something else? I would suggest you to check out the rear panels of the bike too. I had a similar small sound coming and the rear panel was at fault
You can take the ride away from me but you cannot take the rider out of my soul.........

full chain cover for pulsar 220

i have also the same problem but i think that the sound from chain is due to inadequate grease coz everytime the chain is open & it remains in contact with the air....i think that full chain cover for pulsar could be another option to solve the dispute...

Thanks for replying guys....had been to the service center & i have been informed that the chain cover is not in proper shape which is causing this problem. The service manager has asked me to come some time in the morning & said that he will sort that out for me. I have been a victim of petrol robbery so changed the cock of the petrol near the tank & installed the one with key so that this does not happen again...i have to make sure that i keep the key safe but i will do it. I think i will go for motul 5000 & check the difference in performance. Thanks guys...

I got my Grey Silver P220 SF on Oct 19th.. and completed 550kms. Previously i was using 2002 Pulsar 150.
Waiting for some 1500 kms atleast to explore the power of my new P220. Braking and handling is too good. I feel the switches and plastic are not that quality as that of my old bike.
The bike kneels down when we ride with a pillion. I feel my handling of the bike is reduced when i ride with a pillion. Is this the same case with you all?
I would also like to know what is the engine oil specification. What oil does bajaj use for first service?

Ask them to change the oil in your presence only as these guys have a tendency to use the regular oil that they use in other bikes (20w40) in your bike . The correct grade of oil to be used is 20w50 they would probably use the bajaj dtsi branded oil on your bike the quantity is 1150ml
                i guess
and congratas for your new ride

The noise which I had reported and said that it was coming out of the chain cover has reduced drastically after greasing the chain properly. I guess it was because of the low greasing the chain was making some sound. Will make sure that the chain is lubricated and greased properly for better performance.

@myrmidons: Yes, you will notice a difference in performance when you are riding alone and riding with a pillion. This difference is seen with every bike, however, it's a little more when it comes to Pulsar 220f but I guess it's fine as long as you can handle the bike properly

                  Thanks...enjoy...
