  • Tube replacement

    Hi all,
Recently while riding my yamaha gladiator i faced a tire puncture. It was a sudden fattening of tire & i was lucky that i was in the traffic riding at speeds of 10-20kmph due to which the situation was not worse & nothing dangerous had happened. I had to replace the tube & the reason for the puncture was a nail on the roads. Now after changing the tube i think "what if the tire had puncture at high speeds??". If the puncture had took place at a high speeds then it could have been fatal since the bike would loose its stability.

So to prevent such incidents of sudden puncture i have came up with two solutions.
    1. Change the tire to a tubeless one. Which i feel is a bit costly & moreover my tires have run only 8k kms. How much do the new tubeless tires cost?? My tire size is 2.75 for front & 3.00 for rear.

    2. Now the other relatively cheaper solution is change the tube to a tuff up tube used in the honda shine. It should be a relatively cheaper solution. How much does the new tuff up tube cost?? I didnt included the unicorn since honda dint mentioned its rear tire size on the web. Now the problem with the tube is the rear tyre size of shine is 2.75 while that of gladiator is 3.00.
So can a smaller tube be fitted into a bigger tire??

Please give me the suggestion on which option to consider & what to do then.

You could try going for a tuff up tube but please get the size matching that of the tyre. If your tube is smaller than the tyre, the chances of it getting puncture increase!

The rear of the gladiator is same as that of the Unicorn (3.00x18). So you can get yourself the Honda tuff-up tube used in the Unicorn & it should be a direct fit.

Only after you feel the need for a tyre replacement can you opt for a complete tubeless solution so until then, you can use the tuff up tubes which is the next best thing to tubeless!

I think tuff up tubes should be available in 3.00 - 18 inches as the old uni's rear was of that size. I am not sure if there produce them nowbut if you search you might get it

even if you are riding your bike at high speed's and if the puncture occurs the tyre wont get flat as soon as the nail enters the tyre and then reches the tube it takes time thats how tyres are made considering all situations dont worry keep riding

@aryan: Thanks for approving the thread.
@all: Thanks for your suggestion. I will try to get the unicorn tube for the rear. Does anyone has the idea of the cost of the tube??

Actually when the tire gets punctured it may take time for the tire to get flat but it can be late till we notice the tire puncture & stopping an punctured bike is hard since the braking effect takes place differently. Anyways why to take chances When we can prevent something ??
