  • [Help]: P220 FI - Exhaust-pipe vibes with a noise

    Hi folks,
I own a P220 DTS FI and it's completed 3 years. Due to my bad riding judgements, last year (2009) I met with a few accidents. That left a sore thumb in the bike. the exhaust note has since changed to clunky one, as if some loose plate is touching on it, while it shakes during riding. the noise is noticeable enough and I checked with the Bajaj service mechanics. They are suggesting me to change the exhaust and cost will be around 7.5K. Now the sound is not like as if there's no muffler inside, but it's more sort of coming as if it's from outside the exhaust-pipe, not inside. I might be wrong in that. But can anyone help me to understand the problem.
On a second thought, if at all I change the exhaust-pipe, then should I go for any better exhaust system (after-market part) for my loved P220? Kindly suggest me on that. I'm concerned about the performance and need your guidance.

Loose plate sound! Time for a change of the exhaust, in most cases this loose plate sound is actually a internal pipe who's welds have broken.

You can try for insurance claim, stating that an accident has damaged your exhaust that way you pay for about 10-20% of the 7.5K depending on your claim cover.

There is an after market silencer from Joel for the 220, it would be good no doubt. But I personally prefer keeping a Pulsar as close to stock as possible.

@tiger: it's good to get a hint on...How did u change the pipe, without the silencer? I mean just wielding a new pipe with the stock silencer, is it? what is that handmade pipe, bro?

@praful: well, I had a chat with Joel and he is okay to change the exhaust. But if it can be done with just changing the pipe, then should I give it a try? Just a thought, can I convince the Bajaj service centre guys, to just replace the pipe? What do you say?

Bajaj will replace the exhaust as a whole as it is one component.
