  • Pulsar 150 DTSi UG3 Headlight, Tyre and xenos Remote

    Hi All,

Thanks to xbhp for sharing many knowledge regarding bikes.

By the way i own a pulsar 150 DTSi UG3. Without any modifications. It is just as i got it from the showroom clocked around 20k until now from jan 2009.

    I have 3 queries.
1.) TYRE: I got the stock tyres as eurogrip without any brand name in it. Can someone tell me what brand it is?.. But now after 20k i feel this doesnt have grip anymore during speeds more than 50kmph and also on wet roads. I am planning to change it to MRF nylogrip (a normal one from MRF which was also given as stock tyres for pulsar). I do not need any wider tyres.. can you tell if this is any good and will it be better than the eurogrip ones.

2.) HEADLIGHT: I am planning to change the stock 35/35W bulbs to any other 35/35W bulbs which can give better vision than the stock ones without changing any other parts of bike (just the HL). Can someone help me if there is any bulb with 35/35W which can do this.. I know many will give me the suggestion to change the coil to avy 180 one and upgrade the light to 55/60W. but i dont wish to do that personally.. I dont wish to do any change to my bike normally. Please help me if any such good bulbs are available with the model, brand (part number if possible).

3.) REMOTE+SECURITY: I also planned to install XENOS remote+security for my bike.. but there are many models which one to go for?? Wil they cut any wires or any other parts of bike during install to get that fixed.?
Please dont say not to go for remote.. i need to go since my GF is insisting in it.. So i cant say no to it.. but would need an idea befor going for it.

DEAR MODS: If i have crossed any rules of this forum please let me know i will try to correct next time. I posted all this queries after i searched and found these are not available in this forum.

      - Switch to the MRFs, the grip and performance will improve.

2.) HEADLIGHT: I am planning to change the stock 35/35W bulbs to any other 35/35W bulbs which can give better vision than the stock ones without changing any other parts of bike (just the HL). - You can try a higher power bulb, but then it would put additional load on the electricals of the bike.

3.) REMOTE+SECURITY: I also planned to install XENOS remote+security for my bike.. but there are many models which one to go for?? Wil they cut any wires or any other parts of bike during install to get that fixed.?

      - Show this post to your GF. Its not recommended to mess around with the wiring, and if, if anything goes wrong, you will be stranded, and the bike wont work at all. ( imagine you and her coming out after a late night movie and the bike failing on you guys?? ). Avoid. It doesnt last long, and is more of a novelty than anything.

Invest in a heavy chain and lock, and that will be better security.

If one takes a small blow torch, and burns thru the side panel to the battery and cuts the wire, the alarm is of no use at all. thats the easiest way to bypass it.

Relax. Its always good to ask questions and clear all doubts. I might not have been able to answer all, but other P150 owners will surely come forward on this.

Thanks jd666 for your swift reply.

        - Switch to the MRFs, the grip and performance will improve.
Will do that.. will change within tomorrow evening.

        - You can try a higher power bulb, but then it would put additional load on the electricals of the bike.
Higher power bulb in the sense you mean a 12v 55/60W bulb without even changin the coil? how will that additional load be visible to me if i do this? in the form of engine performance, or problem when changing low and high beam, or any other thing.. Also, so you mean there is no powerful 12v 35/35W bulbs than the stock ones?

        - Show this post to your GF. Its not recommended to mess around with the wiring, and if, if anything goes wrong, you will be stranded, and the bike wont work at all. Thanks for the advise.. will definitely show this to her.. i also saw a "U" type of lock fitted in a pulsar. it is fitted with the front forks. i mean below the shock absorber. and that U part can be taken out and inserted into the alloys parellel to earth surface to lock the wheel. it looked so modern and also a good basic protection which will be hard for anyone to break it. can you tell me the name of that lock if you know what i mean?

Relax. Its always good to ask questions and clear all doubts. I might not have been able to answer all, but other P150 owners will surely come forward on this.
Thanks and you definitely cleared most of my doubts for which i was in a dilemma to go for it or not.

I don't know about the other questions but u can definately go for the 55w bulb without the need for any modifications . It is a direct fit & the lighting improves a lot .

There shouldn't be a problem with the battery either!

R15 tyres are the best in the market when it comes to pricing and the sizes. They fit the pulsar rims perfectly. You can run them with tubes or get your rims converted to tubeless. A lot of xBHPians have done the same and are munching miles on their steeds.
It is a direct fit with no gain whatsoever. Changing to a 55/60W bulb is a waste of time and money if coil is not rewound. In a P150UG3 the headlight bulbs run off the alternator [ie: alternator and hence the engine] battery is nowhere involved in the running of the headlights on a stock P150UG3.

The easiest mod in order to run a 55/60W bulb on a p150UG3 is to swap the alternator stator plate[coil] to that of the avenger 180. It is a direct fit and provides enough power to run one 55/60W H4 bulb.
The part number for the avenger coil is DV 11 10 05 and costs Rs.532/- in Mumbai.

Bike security and central locking are not really that helpful in protecting the bike as they claim. Plus installation of such kits involves modifications to the wiring which again makes the electricals unreliable if not done the right way. I suggest you skip these and invest in chains locks and/or a watchman

MRFs will feel better. but they're crap in the wet.

yes... they woud have to cut a few wires.

get a proper lock... these alarms can drain ur battery if the alarm stays on for too long...
and ur bike will become a kid magnet with them finding a source of entertainment... set-off alram n hide.

Also... if she's hellbent on getting one anyway...
Google "girlfriend remote"... ask her if she likes any of those.

I do not want my bike to look different from the stock ones. so i wanted to go for the stock MRF tyres which are provided by bajaj for pulsars.
                Front = 2.75 17" ZAPPER FS
                Rear = 100/90 17" ZAPPER C
By changing my current unbranded eurogrip to these tyres will definitely give much grip and also will not look different.
But anyway safety is important than the looks.. so if you are aware of any 17" tyres ones with same 2.75 for front and 100/90 for rear which will be better than the ones mentioned above then let me know.

So i decided not to go for remote (believe me i can make her understand) instead to go for a better modern security locks. can someone shed some light on my query regarding the U tupe of lock that i mentioned.

Can someone clarify me on the above query as well. Even if it gives a 5 to 10% increase in vision then im satisfied with it.. I will skip the headlight change if it needs the coil to be changed to avenger 180 coil.

Regarding remote security system , its just a craze to go ... but personally i was regretting why i put them on my p150 ug3 ...

Those guys, cut many wires radonly here and there and also messed completly with the entire wiring system... though now the bike runs well without any effect but To bring back to stock condition, i will have to do entire rewiring .....

Esp.You go for lock system but dont go for remote start on your bike. make that option all disable else, they will cut few wires from the self starting switching case thing under the tank on left side...

I was terribly upset regarding wiring , though it was fun with the remote and to show off ...

In fact , in my street few kids were always playing with my bike with that sound.. I was damn angry ... So used to lock only during nights (Petrol theft is common in my place) thats the main reason i went for this lock system...

The front wheel locks do work. But they add to the load at the front, and make turning and handling slightly worse. not much for a regular office goer/commuter, but does make a difference for us bike crazed freaks.

A big chain and a heavy lock, and a bike cover, A good deterrent.

Also any kind of bulb wont be useful, till the headlight is clean from the inside ( reflector condition is good, and the headlight plastic is not crazed/scratched or turned yellow, or in anyway that would hamper the performance of the bulb.

Didn't know that! Thanks! I think in the previous pulsars the bulb would run directly on the battery which is why the avenger coil wasn't needed :S. (could be mistaken, please do enlighten)
I had got the bulb changed to the 55w in my Pulsar UG1 but don't remember messing with the coil :S (or maybe I did but don't remember!)

Pulsar 150 never had h/l bulb running on battery. Since classic to UG3 all got their juice from the alternator.
Running 55/60 W bulb on sock coil will give lesser light intensity than 35/35 W bulb as the filament won't reach it's optimum temp.

                          1. install a spot light on crash guard ( cheapest way, but not that useful)
                          2. replace stock coil with Avenger 180 coil ( make sure to check the no. DV 11 10 05) no other coil will do. Bulb : Philips VisionPlus H4 it's the best. I'm using it inmy p150 dtsi.
Don't go for crystalvision or any other blue bulb
                          3. install APE RR unit ( search xBhp for detailed info) and higher wattage bulb
                          4. Rewind the stock coil

Before anything, replace the h/l assembly if it is due for.

1.) Performance? as the engine will strain a bit more to feed the avy 180 coil
