  • Pulsar 150 DTSI; Engine making noises (needs overhauling?)

I have a Pulsar 150 DTSi (2006 model), it has clocked 46+ k till date.

It makes two different types of annoying noises

    1) First is tick tick type of sound which usually happens when it is in idle mode.

    2) Second is chichichi sort of noise, this usually happens at 40+ speed particularly when I shift gear down or reduce speed.

Last time I went to ASS they told me that the engine needs to be overhauled and it 'll cost 8-9 k.

    Please help! TIA!

PS. What does engine overhauling involve? How much does it cost?

The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

consider few other mechanics in your area.. Engine overhauling process though is an expensive one , you shd get it done 4-5k max... of course, when parts need to be replaced inside such as piston assembly, etc , it can take max of 6-6.5k...

more than 7k is not that worth....

Check for white smoke if thier is no smoke then change the timing chain and and do the head service alone, it will fix your issue.

        Head service: 1000
        timing chain: 450
Engine oli (my sugesstion would be Elf): 250

If white smoke coming out from Silencer, need to check bore and piston (will cost you arround 2500)

          Overhauling every 4-5k?

I'll check for white smoke but ASS guy showing me white smoke last time I went there. It was visible only when looked carefully, anyway I'll check again tomorrow.

          What is head service?

          ----------------------------

Some more issues I forgot to mention

          - the choke is not functioning

          - whenever I take a turn, the bike makes audible "thak thak" noise....could it be the center stand striking against the body?
