  • Need help regarding pulsar 150 dtsi(2008) UG3

    I own a pulsar 150 dtsi UG3 2008 model. I always carry out my servicing regularly and it has done around 23000kms. I stay in Hyderabad and and my trusted service center Rahul auto has just been shut down so i had to give my bike recently in Deccan automobiles Ranigunj for servicing. There are few problems which have popped up after 2 weeks of servicing
    1. Whenever i fill up fuel in my bike i generally fill up 6-8 lts of fuel but my fuel indicator shows zero fuel and the reserve light is always ON. Is it a problem with the fuel gauge or is it something gone wrong with the BCU.

    2. The service centre guys have poured some stupid engine oil which they claim to be from bajaj (bajaj 10000km recommended for pulsars) but i feel it has made gear shifting slightly rough. My bike has done 23000kms but till now i have never felt my gear shifting going so rough. Earlier i had used Motul which was the best engine oil, gear shifts were like butter smooth but i wanted to give that stupid 10000km bajaj oil a try. Shall i continue using this oil?? if not recommend any other good semi-synth oil??

    3. The self cancelling indicator is no more self cancelling suggest solution.

    4. The rear suspension causing back pains i don't know wether its a prblm with the seating position or the suspension but i really wanna get rid of it.

    Other than these problems i have no other problems the clutch plates are stock and is still new even after 23000kms the chain sprocket is still like new and i dont use chain cover but i oil it every week.

        1. Check the fuel gauge using a multimeter. If it is fine then BCU is the culprit.
        2. The Bajaj oil is piss. Do not use it. Use Castrol/Valvoline/Motul
        3. Check if the sensor near the front number plate is in place. If it is then BCU is at fault.
        4. You need to get the suspension damping gas refilled at the service centre.

        At 23000kms the clutch plates lasting is really surprising. So is the chain sprocket thing you mentioned.

          First of all Thanks Pavan for your feedback.
          1.Regarding the fuel gauge i've consulted a Bajaj ASS near my place yesterday they said that it might be a problem with the fuel gauge but they told that they need to check the gauge and within half an hour they can fit a new one but i had to go to office so i told i'll be comin today ie.sunday lets see what he does.

          2. Yeah i think you are right i'll change my engine oil to motul 3000 mineral as thats the only oil which i feel is best for my bike. I also feel to give valvoline a try

          3. About the indicator i still haven't consulted any ASS. Xbhpians anyone had this problem with the self cancelling indicators???

          4. ASS here in Hyderabad sucks so they have no idea about refilling suspensions they can only suggest to buy a new one.

          I maintain my bike very well... no scratches no accident it is still all the original parts which came with my bike except the rear tail light. top speed achieved on my bike is 122kph mileage is 48kpl and on highways its 55kpl

            if you can find out, also checkout gulf oil.
            Gulf - Mineral Oil - 20W40 - 220 Rs.
            I found it better than motul mineral for my P150 UG3.

                recommended is 20W40..

                valvoline is 20W50.. a good oil..
                if engine is going to heat more.. then can think about it..

                once you pour Valvoline.. for 100KM you will feel nothing.. but after that it start getting smoother

                I would rate gulf and Valvoline equivalent.. but gulf is mineral, cheaper and in preferred rating.. so

                personal Exp. P150. UG3.
                Tried and rating worse to best->
                castrol active, power1. --> BAD
                Bajaj new oil --> OK OK..
                Motul Mineral --> OK..
                Gulf --> best till date.

                All above are 20W40 oils.

                But as we rip our bikes very hard on long rides, tried Valvoline 20W50 300 Rs. one.
                it shows effect after bike have run 200KMs.. and was pretty happy and smooth on 100+ speed.

                I haven't tries MOTUL semi OR fully syn..
                if you can afford that, try that. Every one vouch for that.
                Motul semi synthetic : 450Rs.
                Motul Fully synthetic - 900 Rs.

                any oil you try, try for twice in succession. trying any oil just once is patiality as previous oil is also there in engine.

                My best till date:
                Gulf 20W40 220 Rs.
                Valvoline 20W50 300 Rs.

                hope that helps

                  I have changed the engine oil to gulf pride 4t today it is easily available an costed rs200 for me the engine sound is amazing now far far better than that crappy bajaj oil... but one thing i noticed that the bottle of gulf oil was only 900ml but AFAIK pulsar needs atleast 1ltr.. and i also noticed that the previous engine oil that bajaj wala was black after draining is it like that or the oil wasnt even changed by Bajaj service???

                    sh*t.. man the gulf oil vendor ripped you..

                    gulf oil comes in both 900ml and 1 Liter bottle..
                    please top up 100ml more oil at once.. its not good to ride with 900ml oil.. go back to him and ask him to make it right any how..

                    OR other suggestion is,
                    buy one more 900ml bottle and keep it as spare.. IF you do any high speed riding.. some oil might be used.. and after every 1000 KM you can top up 100ml more.
