  • Pulsar 220 Air Filter Problems

I'm posting this on behalf of a friend (since he isn't on xBhp.
Last week he got a K&N RC-1100 installed. It cost around Rs.2350.
His Pulsar 220 Fi has clocked around 24,000 kms.

The problem with his bike is that whenever he tries to rev/slightly increase the throttle input, the Engine Malfunction Indicator (beside the neutral &high beam indicator) starts to blink.
In addition to that, there is no feel of any increase in performance.

So, before taking this issue to the clumzy PBK in hyderabad, I thought I'd consult some of the biker gurus over here.
Any diagnoses, suggestions...any kind of help would do good.

P.S: his bike was the first one i touched and learnt to ride..so i know its feel as good as he does. (I now own a P220 DTSI)

I think the fuel injection system might have a problem or the sensor that fixes the ratio... Its a guess, am not sure though..
See that the filter is able to suck sufficient air (not inside the air box), this can also be the problem.

Presence of MIND and self CONFIDENCE is the primary aspect You need to be on road, not what brand your riding gears are.
If you lack these two then DONT

You might need to increase the fuel to air ratio. That can be done only at the Pro biking workshop, where they will connect a diagnostic tool and set it.

His problem is different. THe engine malfunction light glows when the bike reaches higher rpm's... there must a problem with the engine regarding terms of fuel injection functioning, or any sensor that is getting triggered due to vibrations. Air filter sensor even if blinking for hundreds of kilometers will not cause the engine malfunction light to glow.

okay..so basically it might be an issue of the Fi adjusting with the new mod..but getting it checked at PBK would get its warranty void (the Fi has 5 years warranty)..anyways, i've been hearing it for a long time that those diagnostic tools havent been working for months in PBK hyderabad XD

its one of the reasons i hate going there...not many mechanics, no proper "working" equipment. moreover, most mechanics there, i feel, are off the streets and dont have much knowledge on the "technical" aspects..so things dont get done properly and fast.
