Good & I appreciate your love to nature. Ideally you'll need to take this oil, find a scrap dealer & give it to him. If they don't take it, approach your nearest oil & lubrication dealer (not the one who sells the entire automotive parts) & give to them. They'll circulate to the manufacturer. If all of these fails, simply write to Castrol asking them what to do with the oil, they'll provide you a reference.

I have a mechanic near me who pours all used (and no more reusable) oil into a big barrel. When I inquired, he said somebody comes and collects it at intervals. So I'm planning to take my used oils to him. ( I now have a 1lt bottle full of used oil from two oil changes)
Check if you have any similar environment conscious souls around...

There are a lot of cases where the used oil is filtered and sold as new by a lot of unscrupulous dealers. So, ask around and then give it to him.

Workshops actually get paid for selling this unusable engine oil. I know one person here who collects oil from workshops and service centers , and they sell it to oil refineries for much higher price, and its a really profitable business too !. but i dont know what the oil refineries do with that.
Take ur oil to bajaj service center, they will be happy to help.

yes, refineries are for refining right.. hehe.. they must have some ways to recycle it - maybe into grease etc?
Anyway, giving it away to somebody who can take care of it is the least we can do for nature

Local service centres and mechanic's use old oil for lubrication of chains, gates, etc. I change the oil ,put the used oil in the same container , give it to the mechanic. At least i don't feel guilty later. What he does is upto him.

Well rather than giving it to your Bike mechanic(who will put your oil in your and others bike)
Rather than giving him oil give it to cycle repairing centres.

If you can use the whole oil then it can be used for almost all lubricating purposes. The rest you can give to your local mechanic.

                        Used-engine-oil: re use again

folks...instead of giving it to the service centres or elsewhere, can I not use it for cleaning the chain of my bike? If it's a mineral oil/semi-synthetic, can I store it in a plastic container?

Best option would be to store it in a dark plastic can away from children/kitchen area. You can use it for lubricating bike/cycle chains and parts. No harm.

Mechanics usually sell this oil to bulk buyers who inturn sell it to companies which use heavy machinery like tractors/bull dozers/road work equipments/mining companies/Marine engines. There is absolutely not a single process on face of this earth to recycle spent oil with 100 % environment friendly process. The max we can harness technology is by filtering it / re-refine it and reuse. Unfortunate, but better than dumping it in large landfills/watersources.
