  • Excessive smoke from pulsar 180

Hey my pulsar 180 has run 26k and was in great shape till last servicing....
after that the performance of the bike dropped severely...
yesterday i was cruising on highway at 80-100kmph and when i slowed down i heard weird tractor like sound from engine...
i stopped by to inspect... And then when i tried to start the bike.... It refused to start....
i got it checked and mech says piston has worn off and need to be replaced.....
    cost 3000 buks....
what could've caused this and how to prevent this in future?

Do you have the habit of abusing your bike ?

I think your piston got seazed due to lack of proper lubrication.

I dont know what do you mean by abuse but my bike has not fallen or crashed...
i do occasionally rip but i expect the bike to endure atleast that...

              hi shravan,
What he meant was, was it absolutely used?
Excessive ripping, unwanted acceleration/braking >> cannot avoid this since p180/p200 are absolute street fighters.

              hey dushyant,

The mech could be right....surely some cycle parts have worn out/damaged. Check if there is compression while you start (kick-start, if it has got). Piston rings worn out eventually damaging the whole combustion chamber. Oils depleted while you ripped it. It is actually running with inadequate engine oil and no lube to engine.
With pulsars, always do check the engine oil level regularly/between trips.
Get it restored with new parts and start biking. It is a good bike, take care of him.
              Cheers

No feel when kicking goes down as if kicked with engine running...
just have to roll throttle a bit and kick to start bike...
I had serviced bike just 1 week before the problem so oil must've been sifficient?? Wouldn't it??
and btw i still am using bike for daily commute because i'll get money for repair nxt month..
is it safe as bike engine feels like dead and lots of smoke is emitted..
my friends say engine will blast....
                is it possible??

                  Compression has definitely gone down.
Bro, i would suggest u get it to B-ASS immediately.
Excessive smoke is due to oil burning with petrol and getting exhausted. The oil level should be depleting as put on kms.....Piston rings are allowing the oil to enter into the chamber. I am not sure what will be consequences but they may affect the valves and head also.
                  Check for these things:
                  Color of the smoke
Oil level whenever you take it for ride.
Oil deposits at the mouth of silencer-> is this exists it is very serious.
Can consider getting it done under warranty - parts whichever are covered.

The colour of smoke is black...
ya the oil must've been getting burned as the oil is almost finished...
will discontinue riding till i get it fixed...
                    thanx Suresh
