Hey guys, I own a '08 Pulsar 220Fi.Lately whenever i used to start the bike in the morning the fuel pump would fire but the bike would refuse to start. There was no response at all from the bike, the neutral light would go off when the starter button was pressed & after 2 or 3 tries the battery indicator would start blinking on the speedo. The bike would start after a little push & would self start later. even when the engine is idling & the headlight is on the battery indicator would start flashing again. Ive installed a new battery & the battery guy says that the bike is providing enough current to charge the battery. The PBK guys at andheri & prabhadevi have no time to look at the bike & have given me an appointment for 29th of December. I really dont know wat to do by that time. I would really appreciate if anyone could help me out . . .

If the Fuel pump starts but nothing else then it means that battery has just enough juice to start the Fuel pump. You need to change your battery ASAP.

If the problem persists even after putting in a new battery. Don't ride the bike till the issue is fixed, else you will end up buying a new batter. I think the RR unit has gone for a toss.

Was your RR unit ever replaced?

Till about Jul'08 all 220 Fi's had their RR unit replacement.

Hey, thank u guys for answering,I was gettin Paranoid now !!

@anmol- Once 1 push start the bike in the morning the bike starts just fine then onwards. Either it starts normally(not sluggish) or theres no response from the starter at all. . .

@rx100- Ive already replaced the battery but it hasnt helped. Now i feel like ive just wasted Rs 1500/-

@praful- No i havent replaced the RR unit. My bike was bought in November though. Do u think changing the RR unit would help ??

Wait for PBK's response. They will test the RR unit for failure. This is a sort of a common issue, but should come up within the first 20K kms. How old as in KMS is your bike?

Then don't worry this was to happen!

Nice to see you've reached 60K kms. Not many xBhp have touched 50K even!

Will try to get the RR unit checked , but will have to wait till the 29th for the PBK guys to take my bike in. . . Thanx for the compliment, i travel around 80 to 100 kms daily for work, once a week i ride to pune & have been to Goa 4 times on this bike. These 60k kms were a joy to ride. . .

Had dropped my bike at PBK (sai service, andheri),those guys say they cant seem to find the cause of the problem, they say they have checked the starter relay, RR unit & even the wiring but everything seems fine. They gave me a bill of Rs 2000/ out of which Rs 1025 is labour charges. The parts changed were disk pads, bearings and coneset but the main problem for which the bike was left there still continues. This is so irritating ,what do u do when the official service station says they dont know what the problem is. . .

dude, you can ask for any expert mechanic out there. I mean, check with xBhipians @Mumbai, if anyone knows a good mechanic. Take your bike and let him check for CD coil as well. One more thing, raise a complaint in Bajaj website. Write as you have faced & they will call you up soon. N compliments goes to your steed for nearing 60K mark...
