  • Gear ratios problem in my Apache RTR 160 carburetor model!

First of all let me introduce myself.

Hi all XBHPians. My name is Tushar.S.Moily. Im from Thane,Mumbai. Im 18 yrs old and Im in 1st year Mechanical Engineering in Mangalore. ( im a crazy I.C engine fan, maybe thats why i took Engineering!!..lol!)

Currently I am owning a TVS Apache RTR 160 2008 year model. Its my firs bike and I had purchased it from a dealer i.e its 2nd hand.

    Following is my query,
Ive heard that RTR does 70kmph in 2nd gear, 90kmph in 3rd gear.......and 130+ kmph in 5th gear. ( all speeds according to speedo).

But here are my bike's gear ratios.
    1st gear- 34kmph
    2nd gear- 60kmph
    3rd gear- 80kmph
    4th gear- 100kmph
    5th gear-130kmph
(again all speeds according to speedo)

And yes, my bike does 130 only when there's a downslope and plus I have to crouch. Speedo shows nothing beyond 130kmph. On straight roads I have done 124kmph with crouching and 115kmph in upright position. My friend say that RTR does 130kmph with ease.
Also I have fitted a new block piston and crank and I have cmpleted around 2500kms on odo.

Im a rookie so please help me guys. Is there any problem in my bike??

    Thanks in advance..

Please do mention the weird exhaust tip of your bike, if possible post some pics as I seriously think it will have something to do with the problem...

First and foremost, i think you need to understand the word "Gear-Ratio" properly. The speeds which you mentioned are without the actual rpm reading doesnt imply anything other than speeds(maximum, may be) attained by you in each gear. And maximum speeds attainable by an engine has a lot of factors contributing/affecting it.

Btw, Is it 2500kms or 25000kms on odo?

Please mention the speedo readings in every subsequent rpm mark. i.e at 4k rpm in top gear, 5k rpm in top gear etc.
