  • Gear Shifting Display

I and my friends are thinking to trying to make a display which shows the status of the gear the bikeis is in. We are thinking to do this setup on a R15 and a 220, need some help if anyone one can throw some idea on how to go about it
Patience is something you admire in the driver behind you and scorn in the one ahead.

Have you done any homework on this prior to asking for help?

I’ve been thinking about this one since a long time back. There have an after market gadget called ‘Gear Shift Indicator’, its digital display displays the accurate gear number the bike is in. But I doubt that its available in India, so far no luck.

But as I’ve very less time due to my work, so couldn’t able to do R&D on it. One advice I can give you that if you can manage the Suzuki GS150’s neutral switch and is it’s a direct fit to R15 and P220 then with a easy LED setup you can get it done easily.

I prefer Suzuki GS150 only for this add-ons and it worth it as it has 6 gear. But still in all 150cc bikes these days has 5 gears so all manufacturer should think about this. Sometime at higher speed its get hard to realize the bike is in 4th gear or in 5th gear.

Speed is a joy but roads are not race track. Keep speed in your limit and always Drive safe...

If that can be done, I would love to do that. As I feel there are two things that should be easily added to the console of the premium bikes available here, and those two things would be:

        1) A digital clock to show the time

        2) Gear shift assist

AFAIK,there is a contact plate which make a ground connection to the body when the gear is in neutral.
So you cannot get the gear position directly.

SO what can be done ?
You can make a custom hall effect sensor and a circuit which calculates the number of up's and downs of the gear lever and then displays the gear position on a lcd.

Follow the link below for more details.

Though this is an old thread , but can't resist to put something .
Guys if i remember correctly there is an bike Kinetic Challenger before some years which has the gear indicator .
So if any one have it or wiring diagrams with shop manual , then i think it would be easy to make one .
