  • Re-Bore Yezdi d250 Classic

    Hi Gurus,

I just purchased a Yezdi Classic and am in the process of restoring it and as all restorations do, I hit a dead end.

The piston has got quite worn out and needs to be changed. The mechanic suggests as usual that I get a new piston and get the engine re-bored to the new piston size, which is 0.5 mm bigger than the standard.

    1. How much is this process going to affect the mileage. The bike was giving around 28-30 in city.

    2. Is it worth getting a new bore and piston kit (the guy tells me it'll cost about 6K) of the original yezdi standard size ?

    3. In case I go in for a re-bore, do I need to run the bike within some speed limit for upto 1000 km ?

    Please suggest

1 - mileage wont be affected much. Maybe during the initial running in period. you can expect a drop of 1-2 kmpl at most.

2 - rebore kit will bring the engine back to original specification, but an oversize will ensure that you get the most of it. 2-stroke engine blocks are designed with an oversize in sight, so that they can be run upto 2nd and 3rd oversize even. So not much issue there.

3 - yes, you will have to run a higher concentration of 2-T oil for proper running in, and not over stress the engine for the first 600kms or so, no over revving, over loading the engine etc.

Thanks a lot for the clarification. One thing though.. In the above mentioned point, what do you suggest as the concentration of oil per litre of petrol ? Should 40 ml be fine or should i use 50 ml ?

Also, do you have any idea about the oil grade that I should use. Would the normally available 2T oils in petrol stations be fine or should I specifically use higher grade oil ?

^^ its a yezdi... people in rajasthan run it on kerosene!! anything would be fine, and yes keep it around 50ml per litre.
