  • Pulsar 150 Engine Repair - Suggestions Reqd

    Hi Guys,

I need some valuable inputs to resolve my dilemma !!!

For Intro, riding Bajaj Pulsar150 in Delhi - 2008 model - for almost 2.5 yrs - 13K kms of journey so far - willing to take it to 50K mark but won't be able to without ur help..

To begin with, I got my bike last serviced in Mar 2010 (including engine oil replacement). Went for servicing in Dec 2010 again, following are the responses from 4 different servicing vendors:

    1. Castrol bike Zone: 25% engine oil remaining...oil leaking @ minimal rate from the hole on top of engine(leakage is not like oil drops seen on the floor)...hence dry run...crank creating noise...engine repairing required...crank and piston repair..new spark plugs...complete bike servicing...Total 5500Rs approx....I got engine oil filled up and moved.

    2. Dewan Bajaj Service Centre: Went to him with engine oil filled..didn't tell him that I had a dry run...mechanic tested my bike...replies no problem with engine...pick up reduced...brake shoe damaged...gave me list of parts(no engine repair/parts) to be replaced as per bajaj recommendation..complete servicing...4.5K Rs approx...I moved again.

    3. Local Mechnic 1: told him about the dry run...then after checking my bike...puts his finger inside the silencer...black color on his finger...says engine oil is getting evaporated...den he repeats the same story as told by Castrol Zone guy...total amt 3.5K..I moved.

    4. Local Mechanic 2: didn't tell him about the dry run...checks my bike..says no problem with engine...acceptable noise level...adviced me to go for normal service...den i told him about the dry run...says me to ride my bike for 15-20 days...atleast 10 kms daily...to check if oil is getting evaporated...after his suggestions...I moved.

some more info from my side: my bike skids alot if i apply disc brake along with rear brake @50kmph or above.

    My queries:
    1. Is dere any problem with my bike's engine?
    2. Apart from engine, which parts shld i get replaced as per bajaj's recommendation?
    2. Which service centre to opt for?

    Please share next steps ASAP.

    Thanks.

here is some insight into P150 UG3

What you did wrong.. Not to repeat in future:
      - Servicing every 2-3 months. Even basic servicing.
      - Check Engine Oil level after every 500-1000 KM. there is a watch window for that.

      Probable Problem:
      - Engine oil is getting into engine and getting burned. two ways of checking:
      1. ride around for some days. check oil every 200 KM. if it start decreasing before 1000 KM, it is getting burned.
      2. stand bike in neutral and race it to max RPM. white smoke in exhaust means.. engine overhaul.

once you are convinced of the problem:
Better go to a big big BAJAJ service center preferably having and spare part shop inside. get them to check bike after telling dry run. get them to do engine overhaul. 3-4K spending.
only get it done from best, with original parts. learned bajaj mechanics.

      Normals other things:

      1. every 10K km, change spark plug. better go for NGK-GPower. 140 Rs a spark plug. hundred times better than stock once. castrol bike zone keeps them.
      2. get servicing regularly. and check engine oil regularly.
search more about how to take more care of bike.
      3. Use good engine oil for bike.
      4. regular chain lubrication etc..
      etc..

Reading around on XBHP give you good knowledge about bike maintanance.

      best of luck.

man......you have definitely spoiled the engine of your pulsar by not doing servicing / dry run. the extent of damage can be found out only by physical examination. however, you can still ride it this way by simply keeping the oil level maintaned, so you put in extra oil as soon as the oil level dips, keep checking oil level frequently. if you only ride in city, you can follow the above advice for few hondred more kilometers.

but one thing is sure there is a definite engine damage, you may have to change the block piston or rebore the block to a bigger size and put a 1 size bigger piston ( will save you some money) there is damage to your crankshaft also, it will need repairing. plus valves, clutch plates, pressure plates etc....

hii guys,my pulsar also going to show some sign of crank failure, there is noise coming from engine,my mechanic told that sound is starting of crank failure, pikup also low now, there is nothing problem like oil burning only thing is some noise coming from crank,so what to do now??it covered around 35-40k km what to do go for crank pin repair or whole crank shaft assy needed??how much cost of new crank of p150 classic??
and what you guys think about rebuit or go for another bike!

Please mention if it is a rear wheel skid or a front wheel skid, not clear from the statement

            My queries:

            1. Is dere any problem with my bike's engine?
Definitely yes,Physical inspection reveals what the actual problem is.Clutch plates and piston rings are to be replaced for sure.Check for the bore.If you go in for any changes in the engine go in for a run in again,if not you are spoiling the engine again

            2. Apart from engine, which parts shld i get replaced as per bajaj's recommendation?

Spark plugs bosch Rs.75/- NGK -Rs.135/-
            Air Filter Rs.80/-
            Disc oil(dot3) Rs.36/-
Sine your bike hasn't run much you no need to change the disc pads, sprocket etc......

            2. Which service centre to opt for?
Go for an engine overhaul.I know it would be expensive, but its definitely worth

Proper servicing ,every 2500-3000kms would be ideal for any two wheeler. Also try going in for a semi synthetic oil(Castrol/Motul/etc etc) after the overhaul
