  • Pulsar 180 UG4 rear disc brake upgrade

Need to upgrade the rear drum brake of pulsar 180 UG4 to disc brake
I had a lot of discussion with the probiking officials and many guyz but not getting exact piece of information (seriously need a good piece of information)

    1) what are the parts to be changed (detailed)?
    2) cost of the parts
    3) my bike is just 25 days old. so will this change ( if possible) effect the warranty on my other parts or the whole bike.
    4) if I change the present brake shoe(drum brake) with some very good quality one , will my braking power increase or its the fault of p180 UG4. if so which brake shoe is great and price.I need safety

and lastly i have heard somewhere that the disc brakes lock up easily during panic braking as in Kolkata streets panic braking is the only thing happening (at least to me).

    Kindly help me....

    thanx in advance

Don't even think of changing the horns during warranty, forget alone the disc brake mod. Do it once the warranty period is over!!!

I think P220's rear disc can be a direct fit or with little mods....
          What say guys?

This mod needs the 220's rear alloy wheel, the disc, the swing arm, the brake pedal, the RH Step holder, master cylinder, hose, caliper and some small items. Quite an expensive mod.

This mod is actually not needed other than bragging purposes.. The 180 does not make that much power, that the rear would require a disc brake.

Papan, what im guessing is that you are braking wrong, and relying entirely on the rear brake to slow the bike down properly. Thats not correct braking technique, and neither will the bike slow down properly using the rear brake only!!

                thanks for the replies guyz.

@ JD666- i'm not relying on rear brake only. I do brake both simultaneously but as the bikes front is heavy it tends to move front with a JERK because the rear is not properly slowing down the momentum. I do use both the brakes in any case but above 70kmph the rear is very poor, thats my concern.

so if any other good brand break shoe works kindly let me know .

because I have tested the rear brake and two other guyzz from my area they are also having the same problem.

May I know the price for rear disc upgrade if any one knows (totally)

                  if that's what's happening... u're braking wrong.

u need to go easy on the front lever...
zero throttle... press down on it the front brake lever a bit... once the forks depress...
then you can press down hard on the lever then and the bike will stop pretty quick. (on gravel free roads)

with practice... you'll realize u need to use the rear brake far less than u're using it right now.

slapping on a P22O rear disc setup is a really easy mod... it's virtually a direct fit.

but there's a lot of pretty expensive part's that you'll have to buy.

not sure of the exact cost... but the mod would cost you in excess of 12 grand...
and trust me... you still won't like the P22O rear disk.

what i'd suggest is... you put on a pair of Pirellis.

                  they've got brilliant grip.
i've had no issues stopping my P18OUGIII at speeds of 100+...
with just a wee bit of the rear brake.

Err...what do you mean by default are ok? Are you asking if the OE brake shoes should be fine? I thought your ride is just 25 days old, in that case you HAVE a new brake shoes. I'd strongly suggest you to stick what JD & Xinoite says.

Trust me the P220's rear disc brakes will not help you. When I first bought the P220 in 2009, I felt my previous bike, a P150 UGIII had better rear brakes. The rear brakes on the P220 are not as effective as people assume rear disc brakes to be. I rely completely on the front brakes all the time..

I dont know if any body knows, but the brake shoes by deafult in P180 UG4 are of allied nippon limited (ANL). are these brake shoes good enough. how about brembo and previously I heard that Bajaj provide brembo brakes in pulsar.

                            any info

not sure if the brake pads/shoes were of brembo in a drum brake assy. And since your bike is about 25 days old, the rear hub will take time to wear and bed in. You can get the rear brake serviced, getting the hub scraped with sandpaper to increase friction, or wait a few hundred kms and let it bed in.
